2 The Philistines clung to pursue Saul and his sons, and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab and Melchisua, sons of Saul.
3 The fighting effort was directed against Saul; when the archers discovered him, he was greatly afraid of the archers.
4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, »Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and insult me.» The armor-bearer did not THE did not want TO DO, for he was seized with fear; then Saul took his sword and threw himself upon it.
5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also rushed upon her sword, and died.

10 They took up arms of Saul in the house of their god, and they fastened his skull in the temple of Dagon.

11 When all Jabesh-gilead heard of everything the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 All the valiant men arose, took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. They buried their bones under the terebinth tree at Jabesh, and they fasted for seven days.

13 Saul died because of the transgression he had committed against Yahweh, because he had not observed the word of Yahweh, and because he had inquired and consulted those who summon the dead.
14 He did not consult Yahweh, and Yahweh put him to death, and transferred the kingship to David, son of Jesse.

Chapter 11

1 All Israel gathered around David at Hebron, saying, »Behold, we are your bones and your flesh.

9 Ezer was the chief; Obadiah, the second; Eliab, the third;
10 Masmana, the fourth; Jeremiah, the fifth;
11 Ethi, the sixth; Eliel, the seventh;
12 Johanan, the eighth; Elzébad, the ninth;
13 Jeremiah, the tenth; Machbanai, the eleventh.
14 These were sons of Gad, commanders of the army; one, the least, could prevail over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand.
15 It was they who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it overflows on all its banks, and who put to flight all the inhabitants of the valleys, to the east and to the west.

16 Some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to David in the strongholds.
17 David went out to meet them, addressed them, and said: »If you have come to me with peaceful intentions, to help me, my heart will turn to you, so that we may be united; but if it is to betray me treacherously to my enemies, when no violence does not attach into my hands, that the God of our fathers may see it and do justice!«
18 The Spirit came upon Amasai, leader of the Thirty, and he said »To you, David, and with you, son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you, for your God has helped you!» And David welcomed them and placed them among the leaders of the band.

19 Some of Manasseh's men joined David when he went with the Philistines to the war to Saul. But they did not help the Philistines ; for the Philistine princes deliberately sent back David saying, "At the peril of our lives, he would join his master Saul."»
20 As he returned to Zishaleg, some men from Manasseh joined him: Ednas, Jozabad, Jedihel, Michael, Jozabad, Eliu and Shelath, leaders of thousands of Manasseh.
21 They helped David against the raiding parties, for they were all valiant men, and they were leaders in the army.

22 And day by day men came to David's aid, until...’he would have a great army, like an army of God.

23 Here is the number of the commanders of the armed men for the war who came to David at Hebron, to transfer to him the kingship of Saul, according to the command of Yahweh.

24 The sons of Judah, bearing shield and spear, six thousand eight hundred, armed for the war. —
25 The sons of Simeon, valiant men to the war, seven thousand one hundred. —
26 Of the sons of Levi, four thousand six hundred;
27 and Joïada, chief of the family of Aaron, and with him three thousand seven hundred;
28 and Sadoc, a valiant young man, and his father's household, twenty-two chiefs.
29 Of the sons of Benjamin, brothers of Saul, three thousand; because Until then, most of them remained loyal to the house of Saul.
30 Twenty thousand eight hundred sons of Ephraim, valiant men of renown in their ancestral houses.
31 From the half-tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, who were specifically chosen to go and establish David as king.
32 From the sons of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do, two hundred leaders, and all their brothers under their command.
33 From Zebulun, fifty thousand men fit for military service, ready to the war and in perfect war gear, ready to take their positions in battle with resolute hearts.
34 From Naphtali, a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand, bearing shields and spears.
35 Danites ready to the war, 28,600.
36 D'Aser, fit to go to the army and ready to the war, forty thousand. —
37 And on the other side of the Jordan, there were Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, fully equipped with weapons of war, one hundred and twenty thousand.

38 All these men of war, knowing how to arrange themselves in battle, came with a sincere heart to Hebron to establish David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel also had only one heart to establish David king.
39 They were there three days with David, eating and drinking, for their brothers had prepared for them provisions.
40 And even those who lived near them, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought provisions on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen, supplies of flour, masses of dried figs and raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was Joy in Israel.

Chapter 13

1 David held council with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with all the princes.
2 And David said to all the congregation of Israel, »If you find it good and if it seems to be coming Let us send word of Yahweh, our God, as quickly as possible to the remnant of our brothers throughout all the lands of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in the cities where their pastures are, so that they may join us,
3 and that we bring back to us the ark of our God, for we did not attend to it in the days of Saul.«
4 The whole assembly agreed to do so, as it seemed appropriate in the eyes of all the people.
5 David assembled SO all Israel, from the Sihor of Egypt to the entrance of Emath, to bring the ark of God from Cariathiarim.

6 And David, with all Israel, went up to Baalah, to Cariatharim, which is in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, of Yahweh who sits upon the Cherubim, upon which the Name is invoked.
7 They placed the ark of God on a new cart, and took him away From Abinadab's house: Oza and Ahio were driving the cart.
8 David and all Israel danced before God with all their strength, while singing, and by playing harps, lutes, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.

9 When they arrived at the threshing floor of Chidon, Oza stretched out his hand to take hold of the ark, because the oxen had stumbled.
10 The anger of the Lord burned against Oza, and Yahweh He struck him down because he had stretched out his hand on the ark; and Oz died there before God.
11 David was angry because Yahweh had thus struck Oza; and that place has been called Pheretz-Oza to this day.
12 David was afraid of God that day, and he said, »How can I bring the ark of God to me?«
13 David did not bring the ark home to the city of David, but he had it taken to the house of Obededom the Gethite.
14 The ark of God remained three months with the family of Obededom, in his house; and Yahweh blessed the house of Obededom and all that belonged to him.

Chapter 14

8 The Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel; SO All the Philistines went up to search for David. David heard of it, and he went out to meet them.
9 The Philistines, having come, rushed into the valley of Rephaim.
10 David inquired of God, saying, »Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?» And the Lord said to him, »Go up, and I will deliver them into your hand.«
11 They went up to Baal-Pharasim, and there David defeated them. And David said, »God has broken my enemies by my hand, as the waters break the dikes."That is why this place was given the name Baal-Pharasim.".
12 They left their gods there. And David said that they should be given over to the fire.

13 The Philistines rushed back into the valley.
14 David inquired of God again, and God said to him, »Do not go up after them; turn away from them, and you will come upon them from the direction of the balsam trees.
15 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you will go out to fight, for God will go out before you to defeat the army of the Philistines.«
16 David did as God commanded him, and they defeated the army of the Philistines from Gibeon to Gazer.

17 David’s fame spread throughout all the countries, and the Lord made him feared by all the nations.

Chapter 15

1 He built houses for himself in the city of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.

2 Then David said, »Only the Levites may carry the ark of God, for they are the ones whom the Lord has chosen to carry the ark of God and to minister to it forever.«
3 David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of Yahweh in its place, which he had prepared for it.
4 David gathered Aaron's sons and the Levites:
5 of the sons of Caath, Uriel the chief and his brothers, one hundred and twenty;
6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief and his brothers, two hundred and twenty;
7 of Gersom's sons, Joel the chief and his brothers, one hundred and thirty;
8 of the sons of Elisaphan, Shemeiah the chief and his brothers, two hundred;
9 of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief and his brothers, eighty;
10 of the sons of Oziel, Aminadab the chief and his brothers, one hundred and twelve.

11 David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemeiah, Eliel, and Amminadab the Levites,
12 And he said to them, »You are the heads of the Levite families; consecrate yourselves, you and your brothers, and bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.” a stay.
13 Because it was not you, the first time, the Lord our God struck us; for we did not seek him according to the law.«

14 The priests and Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
15 And the sons of Levi, as Moses had commanded according to the word of Yahweh, carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles.

16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers the singers with musical instruments, lyres, harps and cymbals, to make a joyful and loud sound.
17 The Levites appointed Heman, son of Joel, and, among his brothers, Asaph, son of Barachiah; among the sons of Merari, their brothers, Ethan, son of Cusayah;
18 and with them their brothers of the second order, Zechariah, Ben, Jaziel, Semiramoth, Jahiel, Ani, Eliab, Banaiah, Maaziah, Mattathias, Eliphalu, Maceniah, Obededom and Jehiel, the gatekeepers.
19 The singers Heman, Asaph, and Ethan had bronze cymbals for THE to resound.
20 Zechariah, Oziel, Semiramoth, Jahiel, Ani, Eliab, Maasiah and Banai had lyres made of alamoth.
21 Mathathias, Eliphalu, Macénias, Obédédom, Jéhiel and Ozaziu had harps at the octave inferior, to preside singing.
22 Choneniah, the chief of the Levites for the transport, directed the transport, for he was knowledgeable in this matter.
23 Barachias and Elkanah were gatekeepers at the ark.
24 Shebeniah, Jehoshaphat, Nathanael, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God. Obededom and Jehiah were gatekeepers beside the ark.

25 David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands set out to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obeddom, in the midst of joy.
26 When God had assisted the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, six bulls and six rams were sacrificed.
27 David was wearing a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the ark, the singers, and Choneniah, who was in charge of transporting the ark., among the singers; and David had a linen ephod on him.
28 All Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh with shouts of joy, with the sound of trumpets, bugles, and cymbals, and with the playing of lyres and harps.
29 When the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came to the city of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing, and she despised him in her heart.

Chapter 16

1 After the ark of God had been brought in and placed in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it, burnt offerings and peace offerings were offered before God.
2 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh.
Then He distributed to all the Israelites, men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.

4 He appointed Levites before the ark of Yahweh to minister, invoking, celebrating, and praising Yahweh, the God of Israel.
They were Asaph, the chief; Zechariah, the second; Then Jahiel, Sémiramoth, Jéhiel, Mattathias, Eliab, Banaïas, Obédédom and Jéhiel, with lyres and harps for instruments; and Asaph sounded the cymbals;
6 The priests Banaiah and Jaziel continually blew their trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.

7 It was on this day that David first established that Yahweh should be praised through Asaph and his brothers:

8 Praise Yahweh, call upon his name,
Make his works known among the peoples.
9 Sing to him, sing psalms to him,
Tell us about all its wonders.

10 Glorify yourselves in his holy name;
May the hearts of those who seek Yahweh rejoice!
11 Seek Yahweh and his strength;
Keep looking for his face.

12 Remember the wonders he has done,
of his miracles and the judgments from his mouth,
13th race of Israel, his servant,
Children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

14 He, Yahweh, is our God;
his judgments practice throughout the world.
15 Remember his covenant forever.
— the word he spoke for a thousand generations.

16 From the alliance that he concluded with Abraham,
and of his oath to Isaac,
17 which he established as a law for Jacob,
for Israel in an eternal covenant,
18 saying, »To you I will give the land of Canaan,
like your share of the inheritance.«

19 While you were easy to count,
in small numbers and foreigners in the country,
20 that they wandered from one nation to another,
and from one kingdom to another people,

21 He allowed no one to oppress them,
and he punished kings because of them;
22 »Do not touch my anointed ones,
And do not harm my prophets!«

23 Sing to Yahweh, inhabitants of the whole earth;
proclaim his salvation day by day.
24 Proclaim his glory among the nations,
His wonders are among all peoples.

25 For Yahweh is great and most worthy of praise,
He is more formidable than all the gods;
26 for all the gods of the peoples are idols.

And Yahweh made the heavens;
27 Majesty and splendor are before his face;
the strength and joy are in his home.

28 Ascribe to Yahweh, families of the peoples,
Give to Yahweh glory and power.,
29 Ascribe to Yahweh glory for his name.

Bring offerings and come into his presence;
worship Yahweh in holy attire,
30 Tremble before him, inhabitants of the whole earth.
And the steadfast world will not be shaken.

31 Let the heavens rejoice
and let the earth rejoice!
Let it be said among the nations, "The Lord is king!"»
32 Let the sea resound with all that is in it!

Let the fields tremble with all that they contain!
33 Let the trees of the forest shout for joy,
before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth!

34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his mercy endures forever.

35 Say: »Save us, God of our salvation;
Gather us together and deliver us from among the nations.,
so that we may celebrate your holy name,
and that we may glory in your praise.«

36 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
From eternity to eternity!

And all the people said, »Amen!» and, »Praise Yahweh!«

37 David left there, before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, Asaph and his brothers to continually perform the service before the ark, according to the task of each day;
38 Likewise, Obededom with his brothers, number of sixty-eight, Obededom, son of Idithun, and Hosah, as gatekeepers;
39 Likewise, Zadok the priest and his fellow priests were before the dwelling place of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon,
40 so that they may offer burnt offerings to the Lord continually, morning and evening, on the altar of burnt offering, and to that they accomplish everything that is written in the law of Yahweh which he imposed on Israel.
41 With them were Heman and Idithun, and the rest of those who had been chosen And designated by name, to "praise Yahweh, for his mercy endures forever!"»
42 With them, knowledge, with Heman and Idithun were trumpeters and cymbals for those who were to sound them, and instruments for the songs of God. The sons of Idithun were in charge of the gate.

43 All the people went away, each to his own house; and David returned to bless his own house.

Chapter 17

1 When David was settled in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, »Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh…” East Under the tent!«
2 Nathan answered David, »Do what is in your heart, for God is with you.«

3 That night, the word of God was addressed to Nathan in these terms:
4 » Go and tell David, my servant: This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to live in.
5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought Israel up from Egypt to this day; but I have been from tent to tent and dwelling in default.
6 During all the time I traveled with all Israel, did I say a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, “Why do you not build me a house of cedar?”
7 Now you shall say to my servant David, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from tending the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel;
8 I have been with you wherever you go, I have destroyed all your enemies before you, and I have made you a name like the names of the great ones who are on the earth.
9 I have assigned a place to my people Israel, and I have planted them, and they dwell in their own home. They will no longer be disturbed, nor will the sons of iniquity oppress them anymore, as before.
10 And as on the day when I appointed judges over my people Israel, I humbled all your enemies. And I announce to you that the Lord will build you a house.
11 When your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He is the one who will build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
13 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to me; and I will not withdraw my grace from him, as I withdrew it from him who... reign before you.
14 I will establish him forever in my house and in my kingdom, and his throne will be established forever.«

15 Nathan spoke to David according to all these words and all this vision.

16 And King David came and stood before Yahweh; and he said, »Who am I, Yahweh God, and what is my house that you have brought me thus far?
17 And this is still a small thing in your sight, O God! You have spoken of the house of your servant for the distant past, and you have regarded me as a man of high rank, O Yahweh God.
18 What more could David tell you about honor? granted To your servant? You know your servant.
19 Yahweh, it is for your servant’s sake and according to your own heart that you have done all these great things, to make known all these great things.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 What other nation is there on earth like your people Israel, whom God came to redeem for to do his people, to make a name for yourselves by great deeds and wonders, driving out nations from before your people whom you redeemed from Egypt?
22 You have made your people Israel your people forever, and you, Yahweh, have become their God.
23 Now, Yahweh, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house stand forever, and act according to your word!
24 May it endure, and may your name be glorified forever, and may it be said: The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, is God to Israel! And may the house of David, your servant, be established before you!
25 For you yourself, O my God, have revealed to your servant that you would build him a house; therefore your servant has dared to pray before you.
26 Now, Yahweh, you are God, and you have spoken this pleasing word to your servant.
27 Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may remain forever before you; for what you bless, O Lord, is blessed forever.«

Chapter 18

1 After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he delivered Geth and its dependencies out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 He defeated the Moabites, and the Moabites became slaves to David, bringing him tribute.

3 David defeated Hadarezer king of Zobah near Hamath, as he was on his way to establish his dominion over the river Euphrates.
4 David took from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen and twenty thousand foot soldiers; David hamstrung all the chariot horses, and left only a hundred chariot teams.
5 When the Syrians of Damascus came to the aid of Haderazer, king of Zobah, David defeated twenty-two thousand Syrians.
6 David mit garrisons in the Syria from Damascus; the Syrians were slaves to David, bringing tribute. Yahweh gave David victory wherever he went.

7 David took the golden shields that were on the servants of Haderazer and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 David took Again a large quantity of bronze at Thebath and Chun, cities of Hadarezer; Solomon made from it the bronze sea, the bronze pillars and utensils.

9 When Thu, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated all the forces of Haderazer, king of Zobah,
10 He sent Adoram, his son, to King David, to greet him and to congratulate him on attacking Hadarezer and defeating him; for Thou was constantly at war with Hadarezer. He sent also all kinds of vases of gold, silver and bronze.
11 King David dedicated them to Yahweh with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, from Edom, from Moab, from the sons of Ammon, from the Philistines and from Amalek.

12 Abisai, son of Zeruiah, defeated the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, number of eighteen thousand.
13 He placed garrisons in Edom, and all Edom became subject to David. And the Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

14 David reigned over all Israel, and he did justice and righteousness for all his people.
15 Joab, son of Zervia, was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was recorder;
16 Zadok, son of Ahitob, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests; Susa was secretary;
17 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was chief of the Cherethites and the Phelethites; and the sons of David were first at the king’s side.

Chapter 19

1 After this, Naas, king of the Ammonites, died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 David said, »I will show kindness to Hanon son of Naash, because his father has shown me kindness.» So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. When David’s servants arrived in the land of the Ammonites to comfort Hanon,
3 The princes of the Ammonites said to Hanon, »Do you think that David is sending you comforters to honor your father? Have his servants not come to you to spy out and destroy, and to explore the land?«
4 Then Hanon seized David’s servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments halfway up to their hips, and sent them away.
5 They went and informed David of what had happened to his men, and he sent people to meet them, for these men were in great confusion, and the king sent word to them: »Stay in Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then you will return Next.«

6 The Ammonites saw that they had made themselves odious to David, and Hanon and the Ammonites sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen from the Syrians of Mesopotamia and from the Syrians of Maah and Zobah.
7 They hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maah with his people, who came and camped near Medaba. The Ammonites gathered from their cities and came to battle.
8 David heard about it and sent forth against them Joab and all the army, the valiant men.
9 The sons of Ammon went out and drew up their battle lines at the gate of the city; the kings who had come were apart in the countryside.

10 When Joab saw that there was a battle front in front of him and behind him, he chose a corps from among all the elite of Israel and arranged them opposite the Syrians,
11 And he placed the rest of the people under the command of his brother Abishai, arranging them opposite the Ammonites. He said:
12 »If the Syrians are stronger than me, you will come to my aid; and if the Ammonites are stronger than you, I will help you.”.
13 Be steadfast, and let us fight valiantly for our people and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good in his eyes!«
14 So Joab and the people with him advanced against the Syrians to attack them, but they fled from him.
15 When the Ammonites saw that the Syrians had fled, they too fled from Abisai, brother of Joab, and returned to the city. And Joab returned to Jerusalem.

16 When the Syrians saw that they had been defeated before Israel, they sent messengers to summon the Syrians who were on the other side of the river; and Sophah, commander of Haderazer's army, walking in front of them.
17 David received the news and, having gathered all Israel, he crossed the Jordan, came to them, and prepared the attack against them; and David arranged his army in battle against the Syrians. They engaged him in combat,
18 But the Syrians fled before Israel, and David killed the Syrians horses seven thousand chariots and forty thousand foot soldiers; he also put to death Sophach, the commander of the army.
19 Hadarezer's vassals, seeing themselves defeated before Israel, did peace They were subjugated along with David. And the Syrians refused to help the Ammonites any longer.

Chapter 20

1 At the time of the new year, when kings go out to war, Joab led a large army and ravaged the land of the Ammonites and came to besiege Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. Joab defeated Rabbah and destroyed it.
2 David removed the crown from their king's head, and he y found the weight of a talent of gold; and he there was on it was a precious stone, and it was putting on David's head. And he carried off a very large amount of plunder from the city.
3 As for the people who were there, he’in he brought out, and he THE They tore them apart with saws, iron picks, and axes; and David did the same to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David returned to Jerusalem with all the people.

4 After this, a battle took place at Gazer with the Philistines. Then Saboshai the Husathite killed Shaphia, mon descendants of Rapha, and the Philistines were humiliated.

5 There was another battle with the Philistines; and Elhanan, son of Jair, killed Lahmi, brother of Goliath, of Geth; the shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam.

6 There was another battle at Geth. There was a man of great height who had six fingers to each hand and to each foot, twenty-four in all, and he too was descended from Rapha.
7 He insulted Israel, and Jonathan, son of Shema, David's brother, killed him.

8 These men were sons of Rapha in Geth; they perished by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

Chapter 21

1 Satan stood against Israel, and incited David to take a census of Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and the leaders of the people, »Go, count Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, so that I may know their number.«
3 Joab replied, »May the Lord add to his people a hundred times what they are! O king, my lord, are they not all slaves of my lord? Why then does my lord ask this? Why bring sin upon Israel?«
4 But the king's word prevailed against Joab. Joab departed and traveled throughout all Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.
5 And Joab gave to David the count of the people: there were in all Israel eleven hundred thousand men who drew the sword, and in Judah four hundred seventy thousand men who drew the sword.
6 He did not take a census of Levi and Benjamin among them, because the king's order was repugnant to Joab.

7 God saw this matter with displeasure, and he struck Israel.
8 And David said to God, »I have sinned greatly in doing this. Now please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.«

9 Yahweh spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying:
10 »Go and speak to David, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord: I am setting before you three things ; Choose one, and I'll make it for you.«
11 Gad came to David and said to him, »This is what the Lord says: Choose,
12 or three years of famine, or three months during which You will be carried away before your adversaries and struck by the sword of your enemies, or three days during which The sword of the Lord and the plague will be in the land, and the angel of the Lord will bring destruction throughout all the territory of Israel. Now consider what answer I should give to the one who sent me.«
13 David said to Gad, »I am in great distress. Oh, that I might fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are very great, and not into the hands of men!«

14 And Yahweh sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men fell in Israel.
15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and while he was destroying it, the Lord saw and relented concerning this disaster, and said to the angel who was destroying, »Enough! Now withdraw your hand.» The angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jesubean.
16 David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, covered in sackcloth, fell facedown.
17 And David said to God, »Did I not say to take a census of the people? It is I who have sinned and done wrong; but these, these sheep, what have they done? O Lord my God, let your hand be upon me and upon my father’s house, but not upon your people to destroy them.«

18 The angel of Yahweh commanded Gad to tell David to go up and erect an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 David went up, according to the word of Gad which he had spoken in the name of Yahweh.
20 Ornan, having turned around, saw the angel, and he hid himself, he and his four sons: Ornan was threshing wheat at that time.
21 When David arrived near Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David; coming out right away From the threshing floor, he bowed down before David with his face to the ground.
22 David said to Ornan, »Give me the site of the threshing floor, and I will build an altar to the Lord there; give it to me for its full value in silver, so that the plague may be averted from the people.«
23 Ornan said to David, »Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems good to him. Look, I am giving the oxen for the burnt offering, the sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering; I am giving all of it.«
24 But King David said to Ornan, »No! I want to buy it for its full value in silver, for I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor will I offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.«
25 David gave Ornan a weight of six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
26 And David built an altar there to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He cried out to the Lord, and the Lord answered him with fire who went down from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
27 And Yahweh spoke to the angel, and the angel put his sword back into its sheath.

28 At that time, David, seeing that Yahweh had answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, offered sacrifices there.

29 The tabernacle of Yahweh, which Moses had built in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offerings were at that time on the high place of Gibeon.
30 But David could not go ahead this altar to honor God, because he had been terrified by the sword of the angel of Yahweh.

Chapter 22

1 And David said, »This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar for the burnt offerings of Israel.«

2 David ordered that the foreigners who were in the land of Israel be gathered together, and he appointed stonemasons to cut dressed stones for the construction of the house of God.
3 David also prepared a great quantity of iron for the nails in the doorposts and for the clamps, and an incalculable quantity of bronze,
4 and countless cedar logs; for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought David an abundance of cedar logs.
5 David said, »My son Solomon is young and weak, and the house that will be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, so that it may be renowned and glorious throughout all the lands; therefore I want to make preparations for it.» And David made many preparations before his death.

6 David summoned Solomon his son and commanded him to build a house to Yahweh, the God of Israel.
7 David said to Solomon, »My son, I had intended to build a house in the name of Yahweh, my God.
8 But the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, “You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house for my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth before me.”.
9 Behold, a son shall be born unto you, who shall be a quiet man; I will give him rest from all his enemies around him; for Solomon shall be his name, and I will give in Israel peace and tranquility throughout his life.
10 He is the one who will build a house for my name; he will be my son, and I will be to him a father, and I will establish his royal throne over Israel forever.
11 Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, so that you may prosper and build the house of the Lord your God, according to what he has said about you.
12 Only may Yahweh grant you prudence and understanding, when he gives you authority over Israel, so that you may observe the law of Yahweh your God!
13 Then you will prosper if you carefully observe the statutes and ordinances that the Lord commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or discouraged.
14 Behold, by my efforts I have prepared for the house of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver; but as for bronze and iron, no one can THE Weigh it out, because there is plenty; I have also prepared wood and stones, and you will add more.
15 You have with you a multitude of workers, stonecutters, craftsmen in stone and wood, and skilled in every kind of work.
16 Gold, silver, bronze, and iron are without number. Arise! To work! And may the Lord be with you!«

17 David commanded all the leaders of Israel to come to the aid of Solomon, his son, saying :
18 »Is not the Lord your God with you? Has he not given you rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hands, and the land is subdued before the Lord and his people.”.
19 Now therefore, set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God; arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house which shall be built in the name of the Lord.«

Chapter 23

1 David, old and full of years, made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 He gathered together all the leaders of Israel, the priests and the Levites.
3 The Levites were counted, from the age of thirty years and above; their number, per head and per man, was thirty-eight thousand.
And David said:  »Of these, let twenty-four thousand be appointed to the offices of the house of Yahweh, let six thousand be scribes and magistrates,
5 four thousand gatekeepers, and four thousand praising Yahweh with the instruments I made to praise him.«

6 David divided them into divisions, according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gersonites: Leedan and Semei.
8 Sons of Leedan: the chief Jahiel, Zetham and Joel: three.
9 The sons of Shemei: Shelomith, Hozziel, and Aran: three. These are the heads of families descended from Leedan.
10 The sons of Shemei: Leheth, Ziza, Jaus, and Bariah. These are the four sons of Shemei;
11 Leheth was the chief, and Ziza the second; Jaus and Bariah did not have many sons and they were numbered, according to their family, into one division.

12 Sons of Kohath: Amram, Isaar, Hebron, and Uziel: four.
13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to be sanctified as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name forever.
14 As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were counted in the tribe of Levi.
15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Sons of Gersom: Subuel, the chief.
17 Eliezer's sons were: Rehobiah, the chief; Eliezer had no other sons, but Rehobiah's sons were very numerous.
18 Sons of Isaar: Salomith, the chief.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriau, the chief; Amariah, the second; Jahaziel, the third; and Jecmaam, the fourth, —
20 Sons of Oziel: Micah, the chief; Jesiah, the second.

21 Sons of Merari: Moholi and Musi. — Sons of Moholi: Eleazar and Cis.
22 Eleazar died without having any sons, but only daughters; the sons of Cish, their brothers, took them for women. —
23 Sons of Musi: Molohi, Eder and Jerimoth: three.

24 These were the sons of Levi according to their families, the heads of families according to how they were numbered, by name counted by head; they did the work of the service of the house of Yahweh, from the age of twenty years and above.
25 For David said, »The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and they will dwell forever in Jerusalem;
26 And as for the Levites, they will no longer have to carry the Tabernacle and all the utensils for its service.«
27 It was according to David’s last orders that the census was taken of the sons of Levi from the age of twenty years and above.
28 For their function was to put at the disposal of Aaron's sons for the service of the house of Yahweh, concerning the courts and the chambers, the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
29 concerning the breads of the Presence, the fine flour for the offerings, the unleavened cakes, what is cooked on the pan and what was mixed together, everything that needed to be weighed and measured.
30 They had to present themselves every morning and every evening, in order to celebrate and praise Yahweh,
31 and to offer all the burnt offerings to Yahweh on the Sabbaths, the New Moons, and the appointed feasts, according to the number prescribed by the law to offer in perpetuity before Yahweh.
32 They were to devote themselves to the care of the tent of meeting, to the care of the holy things, and to the care of Aaron's sons, their brothers, for the service of the house of Yahweh.

Chapter 28

1 David gathered together in Jerusalem all the princes of Israel: the princes of the tribes, the commanders of the divisions that served the king, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, the overseers of all the possessions and livestock of the king and his sons, as well as the overseers and the mighty men—all the mighty men.

2 King David stood up and said, »Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and for the footstool of our God, and I was making preparations for the construction.
3 But God said to me, “You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.”.
4 Yahweh, the God of Israel, has chosen me from all my father's house, to that I were king over Israel forever. For he has chosen Judah to be leader; and in the house of Judah, he chose my father's house, and among my father's sons, he was pleased with me to me to rule over all Israel.
5 And among all my sons, — for Yahweh has given me many sons, — he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingship of Yahweh, over Israel.
6 He said to me, “It is Solomon, your son, who will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him for my son, and I will be a father to him.”.
7 I will establish his kingdom forever, if he remains attached, as He is today, to the practice of my commandments and my ordinances.
8 Now, in the sight of all Israel, of the assembly of Yahweh, and before our God who hears us, keep and carefully observe all the commandments of Yahweh your God, so that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your children after you forever.
9 And you, Solomon, my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and a devoted soul, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
10 Now see that Yahweh has chosen you to build a house that will be her Sanctuary. Be strong, and get to work.«

11 David gave to Solomon his son the design of the portico and the buildings, treasury rooms, upper rooms, inner rooms which were attached to it, as well as the mercy seat;
12 the plan of everything that he had in mind concerning the courts of the house of Yahweh and all the surrounding chambers, for the treasures of the house of God and the treasures of the sanctuary,
13 for the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of Yahweh, and for all the utensils employees in the service of the house of Yahweh;
14 the model of the utensils of gold, with the weight of the gold, for all the utensils of each service; the model of all the silver utensils, with the weight, for all the utensils of each service;
15 the weight of the gold candlesticks and their gold lamps, according to the weight of each candlestick and its lamps, and the weight of silver candlesticks, according to the weight of each candlestick;
16 the weight of gold for the tables of the showbread, for each table, and the weight of the money for the silver tables;
17 the model forks, ewers and cups of pure gold; gold amphorae, with the weight of each amphora; silver amphorae, with the weight of each amphora;
18 of the altar of incense made of refined gold, according her weight; the tank model of God, golden Cherubim that extend their wings and cover the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.
19 » All of this, said David, all the works of This model, Yahweh me instructed by a written document, in his own hand, came to me.«

20 David said to Solomon his son, »Be strong and courageous! Get to work! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, will be with you; he will not leave you nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of Yahweh is finished.
21 And here with you the divisions of the priests and Levites for all the service of the house of God; with you, for every kind of work, are also all the men dedicated and skilled, for all works; Finally, the leaders and the people for the execution of All your orders.«

Chapter 29

1 King David said to the whole assembly, »My son Solomon, the only one whom God has chosen, is young and weak, and the work is considerable; for this palace is not for a man, but for Yahweh God.
2 I have put all my effort into preparing gold for the house of my God, objects gold, silver for objects of silver, of bronze for objects of bronze, of iron for objects iron, wood for objects of wood, onyx stones and stones to be set, ornamental stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones and marble stones in abundance.
3 Moreover, in my affection for the house of God, for the gold and silver which are my own, I THE give to the house of my God, besides all that I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary:
4 three thousand talents of gold, gold from Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the chambers,
5 gold for objects gold, silver for objects of money, and for all the work done by the workers' hands. Who today wants to spontaneously fill their hand of offerings for Yahweh?«

6 The heads of families, the princes of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the king's stewards, made voluntary offerings.
7 They gave for the work from the house of God five thousand talents of gold, ten thousand darics, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8 Those who owned stones precious they gave them, for the treasury of the house of Yahweh, into the hands of Jahiel the Gershonite.
9 The people rejoiced over their freewill offerings, for they were making these freewill offerings to Yahweh from a perfect heart; King David also rejoiced greatly.

10 David blessed Yahweh in the sight of all the assembly; and David said: »Blessed are you, Yahweh, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!”
11 To you, Yahweh, belong the greatness, the power, the majesty, the splendor, and the glory, for all that is in heaven and on earth, belongs to you ; to you, Yahweh, belongs the kingdom; to you is to rise supremely above all.
12 of you drift wealth and glory; you rule over all; in your hand are strength and power, and to your hand it belongs to to give all things grandeur and solidity.
13 Now therefore, O our God, we praise you and celebrate your glorious name.
14 For who am I, and who are my people, that we should have the power and the strength to make such offerings willingly? Everything comes from you, and we give you what we received from your hand.
15 For we are strangers and colonists before you, as were all our fathers; our days on earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16 Yahweh, our God, all these riches that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name, It is of your hand that’they come, And It is to you that All belongs.
17 I know, O my God, that you search hearts and that you love uprightness; therefore I have willingly made all these offerings in the uprightness of my heart, and now I see with joy your people who are here making their offerings to you willingly.
18 Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever arrangement like the shape of the feelings in the hearts of your people, and keep their hearts turned towards you.
19 And to my son Solomon give a perfect heart to observe your commandments, your precepts, and your laws, to put them all into practice, and to build the palace for which I have made preparations.«

20 David said to the whole assembly, »Therefore bless the Lord your God.» And the whole assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down and worshiped before the Lord and before the king.

21 The next day they sacrificed animals to the Lord, and offered as a burnt offering to the Lord a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their customary drink offerings, and’others sacrifices in great numbers for all Israel;
22 They ate and drank that day before the Lord with great joy. For the second time, they proclaimed Solomon, son of David, king, and anointed him as ruler before the Lord; and they anointed Sadoc like big priest.
23 Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king, in place of David his father; he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
24 All the leaders and valiant men, even all the sons of King David, submitted to King Solomon.
25 Yahweh raised Solomon to the highest degree in the sight of all Israel, and he gave to his reign a glory which no king in Israel before him had ever had.

26 David, son of Jesse, reigned over all Israel.
27 The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
28 He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and glory; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.
29 The acts of King David, first and last, are written in the chronicle of Samuel the seer, in the chronicle of Nathan the prophet, and in the chronicle of Gad the seer,
30 with all his reign and all his exploits and the vicissitudes that befell him, as well as Israel, and all the kingdoms of others country.
