ECCLESIASTIC (SIRACIDE)
(The translation contained in this edition of the Crampon Bible follows the official Greek version, but retains, inserted in brackets, the readings specific to the Latin version that appear in the authorized Greek manuscripts.)

Prologue

Many excellent lessons have been handed down to us through the Law, the Prophets, and the other writers who followed them, thus ensuring Israel a well-deserved praise for instruction and wisdom. And, since not only do those who read them acquire knowledge, but those who diligently study them also become capable of being useful to outsiders through their speech and writings, my ancestor Jesus, who had devoted himself greatly to the reading of the Law, the Prophets, and the other books of our fathers, and who had acquired great skill in them, was also led to compose a work relating to moral training and wisdom, so that those who desire to learn, by also adhering to this book, may progress more and more in a life conforming to the law.

I therefore urge you to read it with kindness and attention, and to be indulgent in places where, despite the care we have taken in translating it, we may appear to have misinterpreted some words; for Hebrew terms do not have the same force when passing into another language. This defect born meets not only in this book; but the law itself, the prophecies, and the other books sacred offer more than just a small number of differences, when comparing the version to the original.

Having gone to Egypt in the thirty-eighth year of the reign of Euergetes, I found during my stay that the instruction religious was far from equaling ours. I therefore considered it very necessary to devote some care and effort to the translation of this book. To this end, I have dedicated much sleep and application to this work during this time, in order to bring it to a successful conclusion and to publish it for those in foreign lands who are eager to learn and willing to conform their lives to the law. of the Lord.

Chapter 1

1 All wisdom comes from the Lord,
She is with him forever.
2 Who can count the sands of the sea,
Raindrops and days of the past?
3 Who can reach the heights of heaven, the breadth of the earth,
the depth of The abyss and wisdom?

4 Wisdom was created before all things,
and the light of intelligence from eternity.
5 [The source of wisdom is the word of God in the highest heaven,
His ways are the eternal commandments.
6 To whom the root of wisdom has been revealed,
And who knew his true intentions?
7 [To whom has the knowledge of wisdom been revealed and manifested,
and who understands the richness of its ways?
8 There is only one sage who is greatly formidable,
seated on his throne: that is the Lord.
9 He is the one who created it;
He saw it and he made it known.
10 He has poured it out on all his works,
as well as on all flesh, according the measure of his gift,
He gave it freely to those who love him.

11 The fear of the Lord is glory and honor,
and joy, and a crown of gladness.
12 The fear of the Lord gladdens the heart;
It brings cheerfulness, joy, and long life.
13 Whoever fears the Lord will ultimately prosper.,
and he will find favor on the day of his death.
[The love of God is glorious wisdom;
to those to whom he appears, God communicates the wisdom,
For that they THE may contemplate.]

14 The beginning of wisdom is to fear God;
she is formed with the faithful in the bosom of their mother.
15 She has prepared for herself an eternal dwelling place among men;
She will remain faithfully with their race.
16 The fullness of wisdom is to fear the Lord;
Its fruits satisfy those who own it.
17 She filled her whole house with desirable things,
And his storehouses of its produce.
18 The crown of wisdom is the fear of the Lord;
she makes it bloom peace and the fruits of salvation.
19 The Lord saw it and manifested it;
[and both are gifts from God.]
He makes science and the light of intelligence rain down in torrents,
It exalts the glory of those who possess it.
20 The root of wisdom is to fear the Lord,
and its branches represent a long life.

21 [The fear of the Lord banishes sin,
and whoever clings to it turns away anger.
22 L'’man Unjust and impulsive cannot be justified.,
for the fury of his anger brings about his downfall.
23 L'’man patient waits until the time wanted,
and then joy is returned to her.
24 He hides even the time wanted his words,
and the lips of the faithful will recount his prudence.
25 The treasures of wisdom contain maxims of prudence,
but piety towards God is in an abomination to the sinner.

26 Do you desire wisdom? Keep the commandments,
and the Lord will grant it to you.
27 For wisdom and instruction are the fear of the Lord,
And what he likes is loyalty and gentleness.
28 Do not refuse to fear the Lord,
and do not approach him with a double heart.
29 Do not be hypocritical in front of men,
and watch your lips.
30 Do not exalt yourself, lest you fall,
and that you do not bring confusion upon yourself.
For the Lord will reveal what you are hiding,
and will rush you into the midst of the assembly,
because you have not given yourself over to the fear of the Lord,
and that your heart is full of deceit.

Chapter 2

1 My son, if you undertake to serve the Lord,
Prepare your soul for the test.

2. Straighten your heart and be steadfast,
and do not rush into times of misfortune.
3 Cling to God and do not’in don't separate,
so that you may grow to your end.
4 Accept whatever comes your way,
And, in the vicissitudes of your humiliation, be patient.
5 For gold is tested in the fire,
and pleasant men farewell in the crucible of humiliation.
6 Have faith in God, and he will raise you up;
Make your ways straight, and hope in him.

7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy,
and do not turn away, lest you fall.
8 You who fear the Lord, have faith in him,
and your reward will not be lost.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for good,
joy eternal and mercy.

10 Consider the ancient generations, and see:
Who has ever hoped in the Lord and been put to shame?
Who remained true to their fear and was abandoned?
Who invoked him and received nothing but contempt from him?
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful;
He forgives sins and delivers in the day of affliction.

12 Woe to the timid hearts, to the weak hands,
to the sinner who walks in two lanes!
13 Woe to the heart without strength, because it has no faith In God!
Therefore, he will not be protected.
14 Woe to you who have lost patience!
What will you do on the day of the Lord's visit?

15 Those who fear the Lord are not disobedient to his words,
and those who love him faithfully keep his ways.
16 Those who fear the Lord seek his good pleasure,
and those who love him are filled with his law.
17 Those who fear the Lord prepare their hearts,
and hold their humbled souls before him,
18 saying: We will fall into the hands of the Lord,
and not into the hands of men;
For as much as he has power, so much does he have mercy.

Chapter 3

1 My children, listen to me, Me who am your father,
and ensure that you obtain salvation.

2 For the Lord desires that the father be honored by his children,
and he established the mother's authority over the sons.
3 He who honors his father atones for his sins,
4 and honoring one's mother is like amassing a treasure.
5 He who honors his father will be gladdened by his children,
and his prayer will be answered on the day he prays.
6 He who honors his father will have long days;
He who obeys the Lord will give comfort to his mother.
7 [He who fears the Lord honors his parents;]
and serves as masters those who gave him birth.
8 Honor your father in word and deed,
so that His blessing may come upon you;
9 for the blessing of the father establishes the homes of the children;
But the mother's curse uproots the foundations.

10 Do not boast about your father’s reproach,
because his confusion would not bring you honor;
11 for the glory of a man him comes from the honor of his father,
And a despised mother is a shame to her children.

12 My son, support your father in his old age,
and does not grieve him during his lifetime.
13 Should his spirit fail, be lenient,
and do not despise it in the fullness of your strength.
14 For good deeds done to a father will not be forgotten,
And, in place of your sins, your house will become prosperous.
15 On the day of tribulation, the Lord will remember you;
like ice melts in calm weather,
Thus your sins will be washed away.
16 He who forsakes his father is like a blasphemer;
Cursed is he who provokes his mother to anger.

17 My son, perform your works with gentleness,
and you will be loved by the pleasant man farewell.
18 Humble yourself all the more because you are greater,
and you will find favor in the sight of the Lord;
19 For the power of the Lord is great,
and he is glorified by the humble.

20. Do not seek what is too difficult for you,
and do not scrutinize what is beyond your strength.
21 What you are commanded, that is what you must think about,
because you have no use for hidden things.
22 Do not apply yourself to superfluous occupations,
because you have already been shown more than the human mind can comprehend.
23 Their own Illusion has misled a great many.,
and a guilty presumption diverted their thoughts.

24 He who loves danger will find his downfall there:
And the hard heart ultimately falls into misfortune.
25 The hard-hearted will be overwhelmed with afflictions,
and the sinner piles sin upon sin.
26 The misfortune of the proud is beyond remedy,
because the plant of evil has taken root in him.
27 The heart of the’man An intelligent person should meditate on the parable;
find An attentive ear is the desire of the wise.

28 Water extinguishes the fiercest fire,
and almsgiving atones for sins.
29 He who repays kindness thinks of the future,
And in the day of misfortune, he will find support.

Chapter 4

1 My son, do not deprive the poor of their sustenance,
don't keep the eyes waiting of the‘'indigent.
2. It does not afflict the soul of that who is hungry,
and does not embitter man indigent in his distress.
3. Do not further irritate an exasperated heart,
and does not differ from giving to the needy.
4 Do not reject the suffering supplicant,
and do not turn your face away from the poor.
5 Do not turn your gaze away from the needy,
and do not give him cause to curse you;
6 For if he curses you in the bitterness of his soul,
The one who did it will hear his prayer.

7. Make yourself agreeable to society,
and before a great man lower your head.
8 Lend an ear to the poor,
and gently give him a reply that will please him.

9. Rescue the oppressed from the hands of the oppressor,
And do not be cowardly when you administer justice.
10 Be like a father to orphans,
like her husband for their mother;
and you will be like a son of the Most High,
who will love you more than your mother.

11 Wisdom exalts her children,
and takes care of those who seek her.
12 Whoever loves him loves life,
and those who earnestly seek it are filled with joy.
13 Whoever grasps it will share in the glory,
And wherever he enters, the Lord will bless him.
14 Those who serve her serve the Holy One,
and those who love him are loved by the Lord.
15 He who listens to him will judge the nations,
and whoever comes to her will dwell in safety.

16 Whoever puts their trust in her will inherit it,
and his descendants will retain possession of it.
17 For at first she embarks with him on a difficult path;
It brings fear and dread upon him;
she torments him with her hard discipline,
until she could trust him,
and that she had tested it through her prescriptions.
18 But then she returns to him by the right path;
She delights him and reveals her secrets to him.
19 If he goes astray, she abandons him,
and the book to its downfall.

20 Observe the weather and guard yourself from evil,
and don't be ashamed of yourself.
21 There is a shame that leads to sin,
and there is a shame that attracted glory and grace.

22 Show no consideration to anyone to the detriment of your soul,
and do not blush for your loss.

23 Do not withhold a word in the time of salvation,
[and do not hide your wisdom through vain glory];
24 For wisdom is recognized by speech,
Science reveals itself through the words of language.

25 Do not contradict the truth,
but blushed at his lack of education.

26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins,
and does not fight against the course of the river.

27 Do not submit to a foolish man,
and show no regard for the person of a powerful man.

28 Fight for the truth until death,
and the Lord God will fight for you.

29 Do not be harsh in your speech,
lazy and cowardly in your actions.

30 Do not be like a lion in your house,
nor capricious in the midst of your servants.

31 Do not let your hand be stretched out to receive,
and pulled back to give.

Chapter 5

1 Do not rely on your riches,
and don't say, "I have enough" of good !»
2 Do not follow your desires and your strength,
to satisfy the desires of your heart;
3 and do not say, «Who will be my master?»
For surely the Lord will punish you.

4 Do not say, «I have sinned, and what has happened to me?»
For the Lord is patient.
5 Do not be without fear concerning the atonement,
to add sin to sin.
6 Do not say, “ Mercy of God is large,
He will forgive the multitude of my sins.»
For in him are located pity and anger,
and his wrath falls upon the fishermen.
7 Do not delay in turning to the Lord,
and does not differ from day to day;
for the Lord's anger will suddenly burst forth,
and, on the day of vengeance, you will perish.

8 Do not rely on unjust wealth,
because they will be of no use to you in the day of misfortune.

9. Don't open the valve indiscriminately,
and does not work in every way;
Thus do the double-tongued sinner.
10. Be firm in your feelings,
and let your language be one.

11 Be quick to listen,
and slow to give a response.
12 If you have understanding, answer your neighbor;
Otherwise, dishes your hand over your mouth.
13 Glory and shame are in the word,
and the language of man cause his downfall.

14 Do not bring upon yourself the name of a slanderer,
and do not lay traps with your tongue;
because confusion falls upon the thief.,
and a severe condemnation reaches the double tongue.
15 Do not be at fault, neither much nor little,

Chapter 6

1 and do not become an enemy of a friend;
because the villain will share the bad reputation,
shame and disgrace:
Such is the double-tongued sinner.

2 Do not exalt yourself by the will of your soul,
lest your soul be plundered, as by a bull.
3 You will devour your foliage,
you will destroy your fruits,
and you will leave nothing of yourself but a barren forest.
4 The perverse soul destroys the one who possesses it;
She makes him the laughingstock of his enemies.

5 A kind word makes many friends,
And a kind tongue is rich in kindnesses.
6 May many be those who live in good relations with you,
But take advice from just one in a thousand.
7 If you want to gain a friend, gain him by testing him,
and don't confide in him lightly.

8 For such a person is a friend at times,
who does not THE will not remain on the day of your affliction;
9. Such a friend will become an enemy,
and who will reveal your dispute to your confusion;
10 Such a person is a friend when he sits at your table,
who does not THE will not remain on the day of your misfortune.
11 During your prosperity, it will be like another yourself,
and he will speak freely with the people of your household.
12 If you fall into humiliation, he will be against you,
and he will hide from you.
13 Turn away from your enemies,
And be on your guard with your friends.

14 A faithful friend is a powerful protection;
Whoever finds it has found a treasure.
15 Nothing is better than a loyal friend;
No amount of weight could determine its price.
16 A faithful friend is a remedy for life;
Those who fear the Lord will find him.
17 He who fears the Lord has true friendship,
because his friend is like him.

18 My son, from your youth devote yourself to education,
And even in your white hair you will find wisdom.
19 Approach her like a farmer and a sower,
and await its good fruits.
For a while you will have difficulty cultivating it,
and soon you will eat of its fruits.
20 How steep it is for the ignorant!
The fool will not remain attached to him.
21 Like a heavy stone of trial, it weighs upon him,
and he quickly rejects her.
22 For wisdom justifies her name:
It does not reveal itself to large numbers.

23 Listen, my son, and receive my thought,
and do not reject my advice.
24. Get your foot caught in its shackles,
and your neck in her collar.
25. Bend your shoulder to carry it,
and do not be irritated by its bonds.
26 Come to her with all your soul,
and guard his ways with all your might.
27 Am his traces and search-there, and she will reveal herself to you,
And when you have grasped it, do not let go.

28 For in the end you will find his rest,
and she will change for you into subject of joy.
29 His Obstacles will become a powerful protection for you.,
and her necklace a garment of glory.
30 For on its head is a gold ornament,
and her headbands are made of hyacinth fabric.
31 You shall put it on as on a robe of glory,
and you'll put it on your head like a crown of joy.

32 My son, if you THE If you wish, you will acquire knowledge.,
And if you apply your soul, you will become skillful.
33 If you like to listen, you will learn;
If you listen, you will become wise.
34 Stay in the company of the elders;
Is someone wise? Cling to him.
35 He willingly listens to every discourse about God,
and may the maxims of wisdom not escape you.
36 If you see a man In a meaningful way, be near him from the morning onwards.,
and that your foot wears down the threshold of his door.
37 Meditate on the commandments of the Lord,
and constantly reflect on its precepts;
He himself will strengthen your heart,
and the wisdom you desire will be given to you.

Chapter 7

1 Do not do evil, and evil will not overtake you;
2 Turn away from what is unjust, and the unjust will turn away from you.
3 My son, do not sow in the furrows of injustice,
if you don't want to reap seven times as much.

4 Do not ask the Lord for power,
nor to the king a seat of honor.
5 Do not try to appear righteous before the Lord,
and does not seek to appear wise before the king.

and don't throw yourself into the middle of the crowd.

8 Do not bind sin twice,

9 Do not say, «God will consider the multitude of my gifts,
and, when I THE I will offer them to the Most High God, and He will receive them.»

10 Do not be fainthearted in your prayer,
and do not neglect to give alms.

11 Do not mock a man whose heart is afflicted,
because there is one who humbles and one who exalts.

12 Do not fabricate a lie against your brother;
Do not do such a thing against your friend.
13 Beware of telling any lie,
because continuous lying does not turned not good.

14 Do not gossip in the company of old men,
and do not repeat the words of your prayer.

15 Do not hate hard work,
neither the work fields instituted by the Most High.

16 Do not place yourself among the multitude of sinners;
Remember that revenge will not be long in coming.
17 Humble your soul deeply,
for fire and worm are the punishment of the wicked.

18. Don't trade a friend for money.,
nor a brother for the gold of Ophir.

19 Do not turn away from a wise and good wife;
because of its charm worth better than gold.

20 Do not mistreat a faithfully working slave,
nor the self-sacrificing mercenary at your service.
21 Loves the intelligent slave;
does not deprive him of his freedom.

22 If you have flocks, take care of them,
And if they are useful to you, keep them at home.

23 If you have sons, instruct them,
and fold them to the yoke from their childhood.

24 If you have daughters, ensure their chastity,
and do not have a cheerful face towards her.
25 Marie your girl, and you will have finished a big deal;
and give it to an intelligent man.

26 If you have a wife after your own heart, do not divorce her;
[but do not give yourself to a woman who is contrary to you].

27 Honor your father with all your heart,
And don't forget your mother's pain.
28 Remember that it is through them that you came into the world:
And how will you repay them for what they have given you?

29 Fear the Lord with all your soul,
and holds its priests in high esteem.
30 Love with all your strength the One who made you,
and does not neglect its ministers.
31 Fear the Lord and honor the priest;
Give him his portion, as it was prescribed from the beginning:
the victim for the offense with the donation of shoulders,
the holy offering and the first fruits.

32 Extend your hand also to the poor,
so that your blessing may be complete.
33 Gives freely to every living being,
and does not refuse your benefit to the dead.
34 Do not fail those who mourn,
and grieve with those who grieve.
35 Do not neglect to take care of the sick;
for such acts of charity you will be loved of God.
36 In all your actions, remember your end,
and you will never sin.

Chapter 8

1 Do not argue with a powerful man,
lest you fall into his hands.
2 Do not quarrel with a rich man,
for fear that he might oppose you with the weight of its gold ;
because gold has ruined many people,
He even turned the hearts of kings.

3. Don't argue with a loudmouth,
and does not pile wood into his fire.

4. Don't joke with an ill-mannered man,
lest your ancestors be dishonored.

5 Do not mock the man who turns away from sin;
Remember that we are all worthy of punishment.

6 Do not despise a man in his old age,
because some Some of us are also getting older.

7 Do not rejoice when a man dies;
Remember that we will all die.

8 Do not neglect the words of the wise,
and discuss their maxims;
for you will learn instruction from them,
And art to serve the powerful.

9. Don't leave escape the speeches of the old men,
because they themselves learned from their fathers.
You will learn wisdom from them,
and to GOOD to respond when needed.

10 Do not light the sinner's coals,
lest you be consumed by the ardor of its flame.
11 Do not stand up to the insolent who insults you,
for fear that he might lie in ambush to spy your words.

12 Do not lend to anyone more powerful than yourself,
and, if you lent it to him one thing, Consider it lost.
13 Do not stand surety beyond your means,
And, if you have guaranteed it, worry as if you were going to pay.

14. Do not have a dispute with a judge,
because the decision will be made for him based on his consideration.

15 Do not travel with a reckless person,
lest it become a burden to you;
because he does everything according to his whims.,
And, because of his folly, you will perish with him.

16 Do not quarrel with an angry man,
and do not cross the desert with him;
because blood is like nothing in his eyes,
And where there is no help, he will overpower you.

17 Do not take advice from a fool,
because he will be unable to keep anything quiet.

18 Do nothing in front of a stranger who must remain hidden,
Because you don't know what he might do.

19 Do not reveal your heart to every man,
if you don't want to be poorly rewarded.

Chapter 9

1 Do not be jealous of the woman who rest on your breast,
and do not awaken in his mind, to your detriment, a bad idea.
2 Do not surrender your soul to your women,
in such a way that it rises up against your authority.

3. Do not go to meet a courtesan,
for fear of falling into his trap.

4. Don't stay with a singer for long,
lest you be captivated by his art.

and does not prowl in its lonely places.

8. Avert your eyes from the elegant woman,
and do not look curiously at a foreign beauty.
Many are seduced by the beauty of women,
and passion ignites there like a fire.

9 Never sit beside a married woman,
[don't lean on your elbows at the table with her],
and do not drink wine with her at banquets,
lest your soul turn towards her,
and that passion does not lead you to your downfall.

10. Don't abandon an old friend,
because the new one won't be worth it.
New wine, new friend;
Let it grow old, and you will drink it with pleasure.

11 Do not envy the glory of the sinner,
because you don't know what his downfall will be.
12 Do not take pleasure in the pleasures of the wicked;
Remember that they will not go unpunished until they reach Sheol.

13 Stay away from the man who has the power to kill,
and you will not fear death.
And if you approach him, guard yourself against all sin,
for fear that he might take your life.

and that you stroll along the city's battlements.

14 Observe your neighbor as much as possible,
and seek advice from the wise.
15. Converse with intelligent men,
and that all your conversations be based on the law of the Most High.
16 Let righteous men be your companions,
and place your glory in the fear of God.

17 It is the hand of the artist that earns a work praise,
It is his word that makes the leader of the people appear wise.

18 The loudmouth is feared in his city,
And the thoughtless person attracts hatred through their words.

Chapter 10

1. The wise prince keeps his people disciplined,
and the government of the sensible man is well regulated.
2 As the leader of the people, so shall his ministers;
And like the city's government, so are all its inhabitants.
3. An ignorant king loses his people.,
but a city prospers through the intelligence of its leaders.
4 The sovereignty of the land is in the hands of the Lord,
and he raises up for him in his time the skillful prince.
5 A man's success is in the hand of the Lord;
It is he who places his authority on the leader's forehead.

6 Do not hold a grudge against your neighbor for any injustice,
and do nothing amidst the acts of violence.

7 Pride is hateful to God and to men;
And for both, injustice is an iniquity.
8 Domination passes from one people to another,
because of injustice, insults and covetousness wealth.
9 Why is he proud which is Earth and dust?
For during his life I cause trouble in his members;
10 The illness is long; the doctor laughs;
And today's king will die tomorrow!

11 And when the man dies,
It shares the larvae, the beasts, and the worms.

12 Pride begins when man separates himself from the Lord,
and when the heart turns away from the One who made it.
13 For the beginning of pride is sin,
and he who clings to it spreads abomination like rain.

That is why the Lord sends prodigious punishments,
and strikes the villains of a ruin complete.
14 The Lord overthrows the throne of the princes,
and made the gentle men sit in their places.
15 The Lord uproots the nations,
and plants the humble in their place.
16 The Lord overturns the lands of the nations,
and continues its destruction to the very foundations of the earth.
17 It dries up many of them and exterminates them the inhabitants ;
He erases their memory from the earth.

18 Pride is not made for man,
nor insolent anger towards those born of woman.

19 Which race is being honored? The human race.
What race is honored? Those who fear the Lord.
Which race is despised? The human race.
Which race is despised? Those who transgress the commandments.

20 In the midst of his brothers, their leader is honored;
Those who fear the Lord are likewise in his eyes.
21 Rich, noble and poor,
Their glory is the fear of the Lord.
22 It is not right to despise an intelligent poor person;
It is not appropriate to honor a sinner.
23 The great, the judge, and the mighty are honored,
But none of them is greater than the one who fears the Lord.
24 Free men are servants of the prudent slave,
And the intelligent man will not murmur.

25 Do not reason in order to do your work,
and do not boast in the time of your distress.
26 Better is the man who works hard in everything,
than the one who walks about, who boasts and lacks bread.
27 My son, honor your soul in gentleness,
and give her the respect she deserves.
28 Who will consider a man righteous if he sins against his own soul?
Who will honor the one who dishonors his own life?

29 The poor man is honored for his knowledge,
and the rich are honored for their wealth.
30 But he who is honored in poverty,
How much more would it be in wealth?
And he who is dishonorable in his riches,
how much more would it be in poverty ?

Chapter 11

1 The wisdom of the humble man will lift his head,
and will seat him among the great ones.

2 Do not praise a man for his beauty,
and don't judge a man by his appearance.
3 The bee is small among birds,
and its product in the front row among the sweet things.
4 Do not boast about the clothes that cover you,
and do not exalt yourself on the day of glory.

For the works of the Lord are amazing,
and his work among men is hidden.
5 Many princes sat on the pavement,
And the one no one expected wore the crown.
6 Many powerful people have been subjected to disgrace,
and illustrious men delivered into the hands of others.

7 Before you inquire, do not cast blame;
Examine it first, and then you can continue.

8. Do not answer before listening.,
and do not throw your words into the midst of the discourses other.
9 Do not dispute about something that is not yours,
and don't sit with the fishermen to judge.

10 My son, do not apply your activity to a multitude of things:
If you kiss a lot, you will not be free from sin.
If you continue too many things, you don't THE will not reach,
And you will not escape by running away.

11 Such a person works, tires himself out, and hurries,
and he only becomes poorer as a result.
12 Such a person is without energy, calling for help,
poor in strength and rich in needs;
But the eyes of the Lord look favorably upon him.,
He draws him from his humble origins.,
13 He raises his head,
and many admire him.

14 Good and evil, death and life,
poverty And riches come from the Lord.
15 The gifts of God remain with the righteous,
and his favor ensures prosperity forever.

16 Such a person is rich through care and frugality,
And this is the portion that falls to him as a reward:
17 He can say, «I have found rest,
And now I will eat from what I have.»
But he doesn't know how much time will pass;
he will leave his property to others and die.
18 Be faithful to your covenant with God, and live with this thought,
and grow old in your work.

19 Do not be amazed at the affairs of the sinner;
Trust in the Lord and persevere in your work.
For it is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord.
to quickly and all at once enrich the poor.
20 The blessing of the Lord is the reward of the pious man;
In a swift hour, he makes his blessing bloom.

21 Do not say, «What do I need,
And what can my happiness be now?»
22 Don't say no more "I have what I need,",
And what harm could I possibly have to suffer?»
23 On a day of happiness, one forgets misfortune,
And, in times of misfortune, happiness is forgotten.

24 For it is easy in the sight of the Lord,
on the day of death, to render to man according to his ways.
25 A moment of affliction makes one forget well-being pass,
And, at the end of man, his works will be revealed.
26. Do not consider anyone happy until their death:
A man is known by his children.

27 Do not bring everyone into your house,
because the snares of the deceitful man are many.
28 Like the hunting partridge in its cage,
Such is the heart of the proud;
And, like a spy, he lies in wait for ruin.
29 Changing good into evil, he sets traps,
and it stains what is purest.
30 A spark produces a lot of coal;
thus the sinner seeks insidiously to spread blood.
31 Beware of the wicked, for they plot evil,
lest he brand you with an indelible mark.
32 Give entry to your home abroad,
and he will overthrow you exciting disorders,
and he will alienate the people of your household.

Chapter 12

1. If you do good, know to whom you are doing it.,
and you will be thanked for your good deeds.
2. Do good to the man pious, and you in you will find the reward,
if not from him, then at least from the Lord.
3 Blessings are not for those who persist in evil,
nor for the one who does not practice charity.
4 Give to the godly man, and do not assist the sinner.
5 Do good to the afflicted, and do not give to the wicked;
refuse him bread, and do not in Don't give it,
lest he thereby become stronger than you;
because you will reap a double evil
of all the good you will have done for him.
6 The Most High also hates the fishermen,
and he will take vengeance on the wicked.
7 Give to the righteous man, and do not help the sinner.

8 A friend does not bring punishment upon himself through prosperity,
nor in adversity that an enemy hides.
9 When a man is happy, his enemies mourn;
when he is unhappy, her Even a friend separates of him.
10 Never trust your enemy,
for his malice is like bronze covered with rust;
11 even though he appears humble and walks bent over,
Watch over yourself and beware of him;
and you will be to him like one who polishes a mirror,
and you will know that it has no rust until the end.

12 Do not put it next to you,
lest he overthrow you and take your place.
Do not seat him on your right,
for fear that he might seek to occupy your seat,
and that in the end, recognizing the truth of my words,
You will not feel sorrow at the memory of my words.

13 Who will have pity on the enchanter bitten by a snake,
and of all those who approach ferocious beasts?
14 The same applies to one who forms a partnership with a sinner,
and who mixes himself with his sins.
15 He will stay with you for one hour;
But if you turn away, it will not hold. longer.

16 The enemy has gentleness on the lips,
and, in his heart, he plots how to throw you into the pit.
The enemy has tears in his eyes.,
And, if he finds the opportunity, he will be insatiable for your blood.
17 If misfortune befalls you, you will find it there before you,
and, under the pretext of helping you, he will trip you up.
18 SO he will shake his head, he will clap his hands,
He will continue to whisper and will take on a different appearance.

Chapter 13

1. Whoever touches pitch defiles himself,
and whoever associates with the proud becomes like him.
2 Don't put on your shoulders a heavy burden,
and do not associate with a man stronger and richer than yourself.
What association can there be between the earthen pot and the cauldron?
THE cauldron will hit the pot, and this one will be broken.
3 The rich man commits an injustice, and he trembles with indignation;
The poor man is being mistreated, and he is asking for forgiveness.
4 As long as you can him To be useful, he will use you.,
And when you have nothing left, he will abandon you.
5 If you have good, He will live with you.,
He will strip you of your possessions, and he won't care.
6 Are you necessary to him? He will charm you,
He will smile upon you and give you hope.,
he will tell you beautiful things words And you will say, "What do you need?"«
7 He will confound you with his feasts,
until he's robbed you two or three times,
and, in the end, he will laugh at you;
After that, he will see you and abandon you.,
and will shake its head in front of you.
8 Be careful not to let yourself be seduced,
and, within prosperity, to fall into humiliation.

9 If a powerful man calls you, withdraw;
He will only invite you with more instances.
10. Don't fall on him unannounced, for fear of being rejected,
and don't stay too far from him, lest you be forgotten.
11 Don't imagine you can talk to him as an equal,
And don't trust his many speeches.
12 For with his torrent of words he will tempt you,
and he will question you as if smiling.
A merciless man, he will not keep anything for himself. your words,
and he will spare you neither blows nor chains.
13 Be careful and pay close attention,
because you walk with your ruin.

14 Every living creature loves its own kind,
and every man his neighbor.
15 All flesh is united according to its kind,
and every man partners to his fellow man.
16 What kind of union can there be between the wolf and the lamb?
The same applies between the sinner and the pious man.
17 What peace may have The hyena with the dog?
What peace can there be between the rich and the poor?
18 Onagers are prey for lions in the desert;
Thus the poor are prey to the rich.
19. The proud person abhors humiliation:
Thus, the rich abhor the poor.

20 When the rich man falters, his friends support him;
But when the humble man falls, he is still rejected by his friends.
21 When the rich man falls, many come to his aid;
He makes senseless speeches, and people approve of him.
When the humble man falls, he still receives reproaches.
22 The rich man speaks, and everyone else remains silent;
and his speech is elevated to the heavens.
The poor man speaks, and people say, "Who is that?"«
And if he hits something, we knock him over.

23 Wealth is good when it is not united with sin,
And poverty is bad in the mouth of the wicked.

24 The heart of man changes his face,
either for good or for bad.
25 The sign of a contented heart is a joyful face;
to find wise men maxims, it's necessary the labor of reflection.

Chapter 14

1 Blessed is the man who has not sinned by the lyrics of her mouth,
who has not been wounded by remorse for sin!
2 Blessed is he whose soul does not condemn,
and who has not lost hope To the Lord!

3. Wealth is useless to a sordid man;
And what good are treasures to an envious man?
4 He who gathers up by depriving himself gathers up for others;
Others will live in luxury with his possessions.
5 Whom can be good to himself?
He will not enjoy his own treasures.
6 There is nothing worse than someone who denies himself everything,
and that's the just The reward for his malice.
7 If he does any good, it is through forgetfulness,
and he finally revealed his malice.
8 He is a wicked man who looks with envy,
who turns away his face and despises souls.
9 The miser's eye is not satiated by one portion,
and a fatal lust withers the soul.
10 The evil eye refuses itself bread,
And he is hungry at his own table.

11 My son, according to what you have, do good to yourself,
and presents worthy offerings to the Lord.
12 Remember that death comes quickly,
and that the pact of Sheol has not been revealed to you.
13 Before you die, do good to your friend;
and, according to your means, extend the hand and give it to him.
14 Do not deprive yourself of a day of celebration,
and does not let any part of a good desire escape.
15 Won't you leave to others the fruit from your labor,
And the fruit From your sorrows to the decision of fate?
16 Give and take, and rejoice your soul,
because there is no delight to be found in Sheol.

17 All flesh ages like a garment,
because it's a law scope from the very beginning; you will certainly die.
18 Like the green leaf on a leafy tree;
— he lets some fall, and makes others grow; —
So it is with generations of flesh and blood:
Some die, others come to life.
19 Every corruptible work finished by perishing,
and her worker will go with her.

20 Blessed is the man who meditates on wisdom,
and who speaks with common sense;
21 who reflects in his heart on his ways,
and who studies its secrets;
22 who pursues her, like a hunter,
and watches for its entrances.
23 He bends down to watch through its windows,
And he listens at his door.
24 He settled very close to his home,
and fixes its piles into its walls
25 He pitched his tent beside her,
and he lives in the house where happiness resides.
26 He places his children under his protection,
and shelters under its branches.
27 In its shade, he will be protected from the heat,
and he will rest in his glory.

Chapter 15

1 This is what the one who fears the Lord does,
and he who adheres to the law will obtain the wisdom.
2 She will come to meet him like a mother,
and she will welcome him as a virgin bride.
3 She will feed him with the bread of understanding,
and will give him the water of wisdom to drink.
4 He will rely on it and will not waver,
He will become attached to her and will not be confounded.
5 She will raise him up before her companions,
and will open his mouth in the midst of the assembly.
6 Joya crown of joy,
and an eternal name will be his portion.

7 Fools will not possess it,
And the fishermen they will not see her even not.
8 She keeps away from proud men,
And men of lies do not give her a second thought.
9 Praise of God is not pleasant in the mouth of the sinner,
because she was not sent by the Lord.
10 For praise is dictated by wisdom,
and the Lord will be pleased with it.

11 Do not say, «The Lord is the cause of my turning aside,»
Because what he hates, you must not do.
12 Do not say, «He led me astray;»
because he has no need of the sinner.
13 The Lord hates all abomination,
and she should not be loved by those who fear him.

14 In the beginning he created man,
and he left it in the hands of his council:
15 «If you want to, you will keep the commandments;
Being faithful depends on your own pleasure.
16 He has set before you fire and water,
You can extend your hand in whichever direction you prefer.»
17 Before men are life and death;
What he chooses will be given to him.

18 For the wisdom of the Lord is great;
He is strong and powerful, and he sees all things.
19 His eyes are on those who fear him,
and he himself knows all the works of man.
20 He commanded no one to be ungodly,
He gave no one permission to sin.

Chapter 16

1. Does not desire a large number of unnecessary children,
and do not find joy in ungodly children.
2 If they multiply, do not rejoice,
if the fear of the Lord is not with them.
3. Don't expect anything for them. long life,
and make no claim on their prosperity.
One is better than a thousand;
And better It is better to die without children than to have impious sons.
4 For one wise man will populate a country,
But the race of villains will be destroyed.
5 I have seen many examples of this with my own eyes,
And my ears have heard even worse things.
6 Fire is kindled upon the assembly of sinners,
and the wrath of God is kindled upon a rebellious people.
7 The Lord has not forgiven the ancient giants,
which ones, confident in their strength, they had revolted.
8 He did not spare those who lived with Lot,
He loathed them because of their insolent pride.
9 He had no pity on the people devoted to perdition,
which was exterminated along with its sins.
10 In the same way, he exterminated six hundred thousand foot soldiers
who had gathered together in the hardness of their hearts.

11 Only one stiffens his neck,
It would be wonderful if he went unpunished.
Because of the Lord come mercy and anger;
Powerful in forgiveness, he also unleashes his anger.
12 As great as his mercy, so great are his punishments;
He will judge a man according to his deeds.
13 The sinner will not escape with his plunder,
and it will not delay the waiting of the pious man.
14 He will give full rein to all his mercy,
and each will receive according to their deeds.

15 Do not say, «I will turn away from the look of Lord,
And who will think of me from up there?
In the middle of the crowd I will be forgotten.,
And what am I within the vastness of creation?»
16 Look: heaven and the highest heaven of God,
The abyss and the earth are shaken when he visits them;
17 together the mountains and the foundations of the earth
They tremble when he looks at them.
18 But the heart of man Don't think about that.,
And who is the one who studies his ways?
19 The storm escapes the eye of man:
and most of God's works are hidden.
20 «Who will tell us the works of its justice, and who will wait for them?
The alliance is so far away. of punishment !»
21 This is how a man without intelligence thinks;
the fool who goes astray n’imagine that follies.

22 Listen to me, my son, and learn wisdom;
and make your heart attentive to my words.
23 I you I will discover a doctrine weighing in the balance,
and I will teach you an exact science.
24 The works of the Lord subsist from the beginning, as he arranged them,
and from their creation he separated the parts.

25 He has adorned his works forever,
and the most beautiful to shine from age to age.
They feel neither hunger nor fatigue,
and they do not interrupt their task.
26 None of them bumps into their neighbor,
and forever they obey the divine commandment.

27 After that, the Lord looked down at the earth
and he filled it with his possessions.
28 He covered its surface with animals of all kinds,
And It is within that’They must return.

Chapter 17

1 The Lord formed man from the earth,
and he makes him return to the earth.
2 He assigned him a number of days and a time determined,
and he gave him authority over everything on the earth.

3 According to his nature, He forcibly put it on him,
And he did it in his own image.
4 He has instilled fear in all flesh,
And him gave him dominion over beasts and birds.
5 He gave him discernment, a tongue, eyes,
Ears, and a heart to think with.
6 He filled him with knowledge and understanding,
and he made him know good and evil.
7 He has put his eye into their hearts,
to show them the greatness of his works.
8 And Thus They will praise his holy name.,
by publishing the wonders of his works.

9 He has Again Given science,
and placed them in possession of the law of life.
10 He entered into an everlasting covenant with them,
and he revealed his commandments to them.
11 Their eyes beheld the splendors of its majesty,
and their ears heard the magnificent accents of his voice.
12 And he said to them, «Beware of all wickedness!»
and he gave to each of them instructions concerning their neighbor.

13 Their ways are continually before him;
Nothing can hide them from his sight.
14 To each people he assigns a leader,
But Israel is the Lord's portion.
15 All their works are before him, like the sun,
and his eyes are always fixed on their tracks.
16 Their injustices are not hidden from him,
and all their sins are before the Lord.
17 A man's charitable work is like a seal to him,
and it preserves man's goodness like the pupil of the eye with the eye.

18 Then he will get up and give them back according to their actions,
and he will bring down upon their heads what is due to them.
19 However, to those who repent, He grants return,
and he comforts those who have lost faith.
20 Turn to the Lord and leave your sins;
prays in front its face and decreases your offenses.
21 Return to the Most High, turn away from injustice,
and strongly detests what is abominable.

22 Who will praise the Most High in Sheol,
in place of the living and those who him pay their respects
23 To the dead man, as if he was no longer nothing, praise is impossible;
He who has life and health praises the Lord.
24 How great she is mercy of the Lord
and his compassion towards those who convert to him!
25 For not everything can be found in men,
the son of man is not immortal.
26 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it grows dark:
Thus the wicked man thinks of flesh and blood.
27 The sun visit the army stars in the heights of heaven,
But all men are dust and ashes.

Chapter 18

1 He who lives eternally created everything without exception;
2 The Lord alone is just.
3 He has not given anyone to recount his works;
And who will be able to discover its greatness?
4 Who will express the omnipotence of his majesty,
And who will still speak of his mercy?
5 Nothing to decrease, nothing to add;
It is impossible to penetrate the wonders of the Lord.
6 When the man has finished to search, He is only at the beginning,
And when he stops, he doesn't know what to think.

7 What is man and what is he good for?
What is his happiness and what is his unhappiness?
8 The number of days of man is at most one hundred years.
9 Like a drop of water socket in the sea, like a grain of sand,
thus his few years on the day of eternity.
10 Therefore the Lord is patient with the men
and he pours out his mercy upon them.
11 He sees and acknowledges that their end is deplorable;
That is why he is liberal in his forgiveness.

12 Mercy of man exercises towards one's fellow human being,
but mercy God's power extends to all flesh.
He reviews, he corrects, he instructs,
and brings back back home, like a shepherd with his flock.
13 He has compassion on those who are disciplined,
and those who hasten to’accomplish its precepts.

14 My son, do not add insult to your good deeds,
nor to all your gifts the words that arouse sadness.
15 Doesn't the dew cool the passions? wind ?
Likewise, a word is worth more than a gift.
16 Do you not see that speech is better than giving?
The graceful man unites the two together.
17 The fool makes bitter reproaches,
and the gift of the envious dries up the eyes.

18 Before you speak, educate yourself;
Take care of yourself before you get sick.
19 Before the judgment, examine yourself,
And, when the investigation takes place, you will find favor.
20 Before you get sick, humble yourself,
And when you are in sin, return farewell.

21 Let nothing prevent you from fulfilling your vow in due time,
and don't wait until death to acquit yourself.
22 Before making a wish, prepare yourself,
and do not be like a man who puts the Lord to the test.
23. Reflect on the anger of the last day,
in the time of vengeance, where God will turn his face away.

24 In times of plenty, remember times of famine;
In days of plenty, think of poverty and to famine.
25 From morning to evening the weather changes:
Thus, all change is swift before the Lord.
26 The wise man is on his guard in all things;
In days of sin, he keeps himself from sin.
27 All man A sensible person knows wisdom.,
and pays tribute to the one who found it.
28 Those who understand speeches wise men are themselves wise men,
and they make perfect maxims rain down.

29 Do not give in to your desires,
and guard yourself against your desires.
30 If you grant your soul the satisfaction of its desires,
It will make you the laughingstock of your enemies.

31 Do not find your joy in the abundance of good food,
and does not link a company with it.
32 Do not impoverish yourself by giving banquets with’money borrowed,
And when you have nothing in your purse.

Chapter 19

1 The worker who is given to wine will not become rich;
He who does not take care of the little he has will soon fall in the ruin.

2. Wine and women mislead men intelligent,
And he who attaches himself to courtesans is imprudent.
3. The larvae and worms will make them their prey,
and the criminal soul will be cut out.

4 He who believes too quickly is light-hearted,
and the one who falls into this A sin is a transgression against one's soul.
5 He who takes pleasure to foolish speeches will be convicted,
6 and he who hates gossip keeps himself from harm.

7 Never repeat a word,
and you will not suffer any harm.
8 Do not repeat it to a friend or an enemy,
And, unless you are at fault, do not reveal it.
9 For if he hears you, he will keep himself away from you,
And, when the time comes, he will reveal himself as your enemy.

10 Have you heard anything severe What's the point? May he die with you!
Don't worry, he won't make you explode.
11 For a word to keep, The fool is in pain,
like a woman in childbirth.
12 Like an arrow embedded in the flesh of the thigh,
Such is a word in the heart of a fool.

13 Ask your friend; perhaps he hasn't done the thing ;
and, if he has done it, so that he will not do it again.
14 Ask your friend; perhaps he hasn't said the thing ;
and, if he has said it, so that he does not do it again.
15 Question your friend, for there is often slander,
And don't believe everything you hear.
16 There are some who are missing, but without that the heart there ;
And who is there who has not sinned with their tongue?
17. Question your friend before resorting to threats.,
and attach yourself to observe the law of the Most High.

18 All wisdom consists of the fear of the Lord,
And in all wisdom is the fulfillment of the law.

19 Wisdom is not the ability to do evil,
and prudence is not found in the counsel of sinners.
20 There is a skill that is execrable,
and there is a madness that n’East that’a lack of wisdom.
21 Better is the one who has little understanding and fears God,
than the man who has a lot of sense and who breaks the law.
22 There is a true skill, but one that violates justice,
and he is such that he deceives the cause to have the sentence handed down that he desires.

23 There is such a wicked man as walks bowed down by grief,
and his heart is full of deceit.
24 He lowers his head; he is deaf on one side.,
And, as soon as he is not noticed, he takes the lead over you.
25 And if, through weakness, he is prevented from sinning,
He will do evil when he finds the opportunity.

26 You can tell a man by his appearance,
And by the face he presents, we know the wise man.
27 A man's clothing, the laughter on his lips,
And a man's demeanor reveals what he is.

Chapter 20

1. There is a reprimand that is not appropriate,
And he who shows prudence remains silent.
2 It is better to start over than to burn with suppressed anger;
and he who confesses will be spared harm.
3 Like the eunuch who desires to deflower a young girl,
Such is the one who administers justice with violence.
[How beautiful it is, when one is caught, to show repentance!
This is how you will escape willful sin.

4. One who shows wisdom by remaining silent,
and such a person makes himself odious through his intemperate use of language.
5 Some remain silent because they have nothing to answer;
such other He remains silent because he knows the time favorable.
6 The wise man remains silent until the moment favorable,
But the boastful and the reckless get over it.
7 He who multiplies words will be hated,
And he who gives himself full license will make himself odious.

8 Such a man finds something fortunate in misfortune,
and unexpected happiness turns to his downfall.
9 There is such a gift that brings you nothing,
and it is such a gift that is returned double.
10. From a brilliant situation results often damage,
And so he raises his head after a humiliation.
11 Someone buys many things at a low price,
who pay seven times their value.
12 He who is wise in his speech is loved,
But the kind words of a fool are in vain.

13 The gift of a fool will profit you at no cost;
because his eyes, instead of one, are many.
14 He gives little, and reproaches much,
and he opens his mouth like a town crier.
He lends today, and he will ask again tomorrow:
Such a man is odious.
15 The fool says, «I have no friend,
and I am not thanked for my good deeds;
Those who eat my bread have perverse tongues.»
16 How many times and by how many people will he not be ridiculed?

17 Better a fall on the pavement than a fall of the tongue;
This is how the ruin of the wicked comes swiftly.
18. An unpleasant man is as an out-of-season tale;
The ill-mannered man constantly has it on his lips.
19 We do not accept a maxim from the lips of a fool;
because he didn't say it at the time that suited him.

20 There is one who cannot sin, because of his poverty;
And, in his rest, he has no remorse.

21 Such a person is lost by a false shame,
and falls into ruin because of the gaze of a fool.

22 Such a person, through false shame, promises a lot to his friend,
And he makes an enemy of him for no reason.

23 Lying in man is a shameful stain;
It's always on the lips of ill-mannered people.
24 Better is a thief than a man who makes a living from lying:
They will both share ruin.
25 The custom of lying is dishonorable,
and the shame of the liar is constantly with him.

26 He who is wise in his speech is raised in esteem,
And the prudent man pleases the powerful.

27 He who cultivates his land will raise up his heap wheat,
And he who pleases the powerful is forgiven. his injustices.

28 Gifts and presents blind the eyes of the wise,
and, like a muzzle on the mouth of an animal, They stop the blame.

29 Hidden wisdom, invisible treasure:
What is the purpose of each of them?
30 Better is the man who hides his foolishness
than he who conceals his wisdom.

Chapter 21

1 My son, have you sinned? Do not do it again,
but pray for your mistakes past.
2 Flee from sin as from a serpent;
because if you get too close, it will bite you.
His teeth are lion's teeth;
They bring death to men.
3 Every transgression is like a double-edged sword;
the wound that she does is incurable.

4 Threats and insults destroy wealth;
This is how the house of the proud man is destroyed.
5 The Prayer of the Poor mounted of his lips to ear of the rich ;
but on the proud His judgment will come soon.
6 He who hates rebuke walk on the trail of the fisherman,
But the one who fears God turns towards him of a heart sincere.
7 L'’man powerful through language, it makes itself known from afar;
But a sensible man knows when he errs.
8 The man who builds his house with money that is not his own
is like someone who gathers their stones for winter.

9 The enemy troop is a heap of tow;
she will eventually be the prey fire.
10 The way of sinners is paved with stones,
but at its end is the abyss of Sheol.

11 He who observes the law rules his thoughts,
And the final result of fearing the Lord is wisdom.
12 He who lacks skill will not be instructed;
but there is a skill that produces a lot of bitterness.
13 The wisdom of the wise abounds like overflowing water,
and his advice is a source of life.
14 The inside of a fool is like a cracked vase;
He will retain no knowledge.
15 Let the intelligent person hear a wise word,
He praises it and adds something.
Let the voluptuary hear it; it displeases him.,
and he throws it behind him.

16 The speech of a fool is like a burden on a journey,
but on the lips of the’man Grace is found in the intelligent.
17. We are looking for the mouth of the assembly.’man careful,
and we meditate on his words in our hearts.
18 Wisdom is to a fool like a ruined house,
and the science of the fool is only incoherent words.
19 Education is like chains on the feet of fools,
and handcuffs on his right hand.
20 The fool, when he laughs, makes his voice burst forth,
But the clever man barely smiled, very quietly.
21 The instruction is for the’man sensible like a golden ornament,
and like a bracelet on the right arm.

22 The Fool between with quick steps into the house,
but the experienced man stops timidly at the entrance.
23 The fool bends down at the door to see in the house,
But a well-bred man stands outside.
24 It is rude for a man to listen at the door;
L'’man A sensible person is outraged by such a shameful action.
25 The lips of fools utter nothing but nonsense,
But the words of prudent men are weighed in the balance.
26 In the mouths of fools is their heart,
But the heart of the wise is their mouth.

27 When the wicked man curses his adversary,
He is cursing himself.
28 The rapporteur taints himself,
and he is hated by all who approach him.

Chapter 22

1 The lazy person is like a stone filled with rubbish,
and each one hisses at their own infamy.
2. The sloth resembles a ball of dung:
The person who picks it up shakes their hand.

3 A badly brought-up son is a disgrace to the father who gave him birth;
a girl similar came into the world for her detriment.
4 A prudent girl will find her husband,
but the one we're ashamed of do his father's grief.
5 The shameless woman brings shame upon her father and her husband;
They will both despise her.
6 Like music in mourning, like a sermon out of step;
But the whip and correction are always a sign of wisdom.

7. To educate a fool is like gluing a pot back together. broken ;
[telling something to someone who isn't listening],
It's like waking a man from a deep sleep.
8 It is like talking to a sleeping man to entertain a fool;
at the end of your speech, He will say, "What is it?"«

9 Weep for the dead, for they are deprived of light;
He cries over a fool, for he lacks common sense.
Weep softly over the dead, for he has found rest.,
But the life of a fool is worse than death.
10 Mourning for a dead person hard seven days;
for the fool and the wicked, it lasts every day of their lives.

11. Do not have long conversations with a fool,
and does not go with the senseless man.
Stay away from him if you don't want to get into trouble.,
and you will not be defiled by his touch.
Turn away from him and you will find rest.,
and you won't have to be saddened by seeing his foolishness.
12. What is heavier than lead?,
and what other name for him give than that of a fool?
13 Sand, salt, a mass of iron
are easier to bear than a man without intelligence.

14 A well-connected timber frame assembly for a building
will not be separated by an earthquake:
thus the heart fixed on a purpose ripely thoughtful
will be without fear at the moment critical.
15 The heart that rests on a thought of wisdom
is like plaster mixed with sand on a polished wall.
16. A fence built on a height cannot withstand the wind:
Thus, a timid heart with its foolish resolutions will not resist fear.

17 He who pricks an eye causes tears to flow;
He who hurts a heart stirs up feelings pain.
18 He who throws a stone at birds puts them to flight,
and the one who reproaches a benefit has her A friend dissolves a friendship.
19 Have you drawn your sword against your friend?
Don't despair; a comeback is possible.
20 Have you opened your mouth against your friend?
Have no fear; reconciliation is possible.
But the criticism of a benefit, arrogance,
the revelation of a secret, a blow language treacherous:
This scares away all my friends.

21 Remain faithful to your neighbor in his poverty,
so that you may share in his prosperity.
Stay with him in the days of his trial,
so that you may share in the spoils Who him will occur.
22 Before the fire rise the steam from the furnace and the smoke;
similarly before the’outpouring of blood resound Insults.
23 I will not be ashamed to defend my friend,
and I will not hide from him;
24 and, if any harm comes to me because of him,
Anyone who finds out about it will be on their guard against him.

25 Who will set a guard over my mouth,
and on my lips a cautious seal,
so that I do not fall because of them,
and may my tongue not be my undoing!

Chapter 23

1 Lord, Father and sovereign Master of my life,
do not abandon me to the council of my lips,
and do not allow me to find in this an opportunity to fall.
2 Who will make my thoughts feel the whip?,
and the discipline of wisdom in my heart,
so as not to spare me in my follies,
and not to give free rein to my sins:
3 lest my follies increase,
that my sins may not multiply,
that I do not fall in the presence of my adversaries,
and that my enemy should not rejoice over me?

4 Lord, Father and God of my life,
Do not give me the license of the eyes.,
5 and turn away from me your desires bad.
6 May not the desires of the flesh and lust overwhelm me,
And do not deliver me to a shameless soul.

7 My children, listen to the discipline of the mouth;
the one who L'’observing will not be taken.
8 By his lips the sinner will be caught;
The slanderous and the insolent will find an opportunity for their downfall there.

9 Do not accustom your mouth to TO DO oaths,
and do not make a habit of pronouncing the name of the Saint.
10 For, like a slave who is often tortured
could not be free from bruises,
thus the one who takes an oath and pronounces constantly the name of the Saint,
will not be pure from sin.
11 A man who makes many oaths multiplies iniquity,
and the whip will not leave his house.
If he is guilty, his sin is on him;
If he doesn't pay attention, his sin is twofold.
If he has sworn falsely, he will not be absolved.,
for his house will be filled with punishments.

12 There are words that call for death:
that they may not be found in the inheritance of Jacob!
All of this is far removed from pious men;
they do not commit to these sins.
13 Do not accustom your mouth to vile vulgarity,
because it inspires guilty words.
14 Remember your father and your mother,
when you sit among the great,
for fear that, THE forgetting in their presence,
You don't do foolish things out of habit,
and that you don't come I wish I hadn't been born.,
and to curse the day you were born.
15 A man who becomes accustomed to coarse language
will never attain wisdom.

16 Two kinds of men multiply their sins,
and the third one attracts anger.
The man who is burning passion, like a blazing fire,
will not go out until it is consumed.
The shameless man in his own flesh
will not stop until the fire is lit.
17 To the voluptuary all bread is sweet;
He will not stop until he is dead.
18 The man who leaves the bed marital
said in his heart: "Who sees me?"
Darkness surrounds me, the walls hide me,
And nobody sees me: what should I be afraid of?
"The Most High will not remember my sins."
19 The eyes of men are his fear,
and he does not know that the eyes of the Lord
are a thousand times brighter than the sun;
that they may consider all the ways of man,
and penetrate even into hidden places!
20 Before they were created, all things were known to the Lord,
they still are after their completion.
21 L'’adultery will be punished in the streets of the city.,
And, where he least expected it, he will be caught.

22 The same applies to the woman who has deserted her husband,
and given an heir from a foreign union.
23 For first of all she disobeyed the law of the Most High:
Secondly, she sinned against her husband.,
and thirdly, she committed adultery,
and given children of a blood stranger.
24 She will be brought before the assembly,
and punishment will visit his children.
25 His children will not take root,
and its branches will not bear fruit.
26 She will leave a memory dedicated to the curse,
and his infamy will never be erased.
27 And the survivors will know
that there is nothing better than the fear of the Lord,
There is nothing sweeter than observing His commandments.
[It is a great glory to follow the Lord;
To become attached to him is the length of the days].

Chapter 24

1 Wisdom praises itself,
and glorifies himself in the midst of his people.
2 She opens her mouth in the assembly of the Most High,
and glorifies himself in the presence of His Majesty:

3 I came forth from the mouth of the Most High,
and, like a cloud, I covered the earth.
4 I lived in the hills,
and my throne was upon a pillar of cloud.
5 Alone, I traversed the circle of the sky,
and I walked in the depths of the abyss.
6 In the waves of the sea and over all the earth,
in every people and every nation I have exercised dominion.

7 Among them all I sought a place of rest,
and in which area I was supposed to live.
8 Then the Creator of all things gave me his commands,
and the one who created me made my tent rest;
and he me said, «Dwell in Jacob,
"Have your inheritance in Israel."»
9 Before all From the beginning, he created me through the ages.,
and for all eternity I will not cease to be.
10 I ministered before him in the holy tabernacle,
And so I had a permanent dwelling in Zion.
11 Likewise, he has made me rest in the beloved city,
and in Jerusalem is the headquarters of my empire.
12 I have put down my roots in the glorified people,
in the Lord's portion, in his inheritance.
13 I grew up like a cedar on the Lebanon,
and like the cypress tree on Mount Hermon.
14 I grew up like a palm tree on the shores,
and like the rosebushes at Jericho;
like a beautiful olive tree in the plain,
And I grew tall like a plane tree.
15 I gave perfume like cinnamon and fragrant balm,
and like a chosen myrrh I spread a sweet fragrance,
such as galbanum, onyx, and stacte,
and like the vapor of incense in the tabernacle.
16 I spread out my branches like the terebinth tree,
and my branches are branches of glory and grace.
17 Like the vine, I have produced lovely shoots,
and my flowers gave fruits of glory and wealth.
[I am the mother of pure love, of fear] of God,
of science and holy hope].

18 Come to me, all you who desire me,
and be filled with my fruits.
19 For my remembrance is sweeter than honey,
and my possession sweeter than the honeycomb.
20 Those who eat me will be hungry again,
and those who drink from me will be thirsty again.
21 Whoever listens to me will never be confused,
and those who act through me will not sin.

22 All this is the book of the covenant of the Most High God,
This is the law that Moses gave.,
to be the legacy of the assemblies of Jacob.
23 This law Wisdom overflows, like the Phison,
and like the Tiger in the time of new fruits.
24 It pours forth intelligence in a torrent, like the Euphrates,
like the Jordan at harvest time.
25 It brings forth science, like the River,
like the Géhon at harvest time.
26 The first who studied it has not finished getting to know her,
and likewise, the last one did not penetrate it.
27 For his understanding is vaster than the sea,
and his council Deeper than the great abyss.

28 And I, like a canal diverted from a river, have sunk,
like an aqueduct watering a pleasure garden.
29 I said, «I will water my garden,
"I will water my flowerbed."»
And so my canal became a river.,
that my river has become a sea.
30 I therefore want to make education shine like the dawn,
to make his far and wide known maxims ;
31 I still want to spread the doctrine as a prophecy,
and leave her as an inheritance to distant generations.

32 Acknowledge that I did not work for myself alone,
but for all those who are looking for the Wisdom.

Chapter 25

1. Three things I like,
And they are beautiful before the Lord and men:
harmony between brothers, friendship between close relatives,
and the good understanding between husband and wife.
2 But there are three kinds people that I hate,
and whose life I find utterly abhorrent:
the proud poor man, the rich man who uses fraud,
and the voluptuous old man, devoid of senses.

3 You did not amass wealth in your youth:
How would you own property in your old age?
4 How beautiful it is for white hair GOOD judge,
for old age to know the Good advice !
5 May wisdom befit the elderly,
Prudence and advice to those we honor!
6 The crown of the elderly is a rich experience;
Their glory is the fear of the Lord.

7 There are nine things that I consider happy in my heart,
and a tenth that my tongue proclaims:
The man who has joy In his children,
he who lives long enough to see the ruin of his enemies.
8 Blessed is he who dwells with a wise wife,
and he who does not sin with his tongue!
[Happy is he who has found a faithful friend],
and he who does not serve masters unworthy of him!
9 Blessed is he who has found prudence,
And the one who teaches it has an attentive ear!
10 How great is the man who has found wisdom!
Yet he is not above him who fears the Lord.
11 The fear of the Lord surpasses all;
He who possesses it, to whom can he be compared?
[The fear of the Lord is the beginning of his love,
and faith is the beginning of devotion to God].

12 All sufferings, but not suffering of the heart;
All wickedness, but not the wickedness of women.
13 All evils, except the evil caused by adversaries,
All forms of revenge are acceptable, but not revenge against enemies.

14 There is no poison worse than snake venom,
And there is no greater anger than the anger of a woman.
15 I would rather live with a lion and a dragon,
than to stay with a wicked woman.
16 The wickedness of the woman changes her face;
It makes her face as black as a sack.
17 Her husband will sit down among his friends,
and, in THE Hearing this, he sighed bitterly.
18 All wickedness is slight, compared to the wickedness of the woman:
May the fate of sinners fall upon her!

19 Like a sandy slope for an old man's feet,
Thus, a talkative wife is like a quiet husband.
20 Do not be seduced by a woman's beauty,
and that’none Woman, do not arouse your lust.
21 It is a subject of’indignation, disgrace, and great shame,
that the wife provide for her husband.
22 Dejection of the heart, sadness of the face, suffering of the soul:
this is what it produces a wicked woman.
Languid hands, and buckling knees:
this is what it produces A woman who doesn't make her husband happy.
23 Sin began with a woman;
It is because of her that we all die.

24. Do not leave in the water none issue,
nor to the wicked woman none authority.
25 If it doesn't work like your hand the conduit,
Cut it off from your flesh.

Chapter 26

1 Blessed is the husband of a virtuous woman,
and the number of his days will be doubled.
2. The strong woman is joy from her husband,
and he spent his years in peace.
3 A virtuous woman is a good part;
It will be given as a portion to those who fear the Lord.
4. Rich or poor, her husband has a joyful heart,
at all times her His face is cheerful.

5 There are three things my heart dreads,
And regarding the fourth, I pray before the Lord :
the nasty remarks of all a city,
the curse of the mob and slander:
all these things are more odious than death;
6 But pain of heart and affliction is like a woman jealous of another,
and the whip of a tongue that tells everyone its grievances.
7 A wicked wife is like a pair of oxen in disagreement;
The one who holds it is like one who has caught a scorpion.

8 It's a big subject of anger than a woman given to wine;
she will not veil even his shame.
9 From the audacity of her gaze, from the blinking of her eyelids,
We recognize a woman's immodesty.
10 Keep a good watch over a rebellious girl,
for fear that, seeing your Through negligence, she does not indulge in debauchery.
11 Beware of following an impudent eye;
otherwise Don't be surprised if he leads you into sin.
12 As the thirsty traveler opens his mouth,
and drinks of every water he finds,
The shameless man sits in front of every post,
and in front of the arrow opens her quiver.

13 A woman's grace makes joy from her husband,
and his intelligence spreads strength throughout his bones.
14 A silent woman is a gift from God,
And nothing compares to a well-bred woman.
15 This is a grace beyond compare. all thanks to a modest woman,
And no treasure is worth a chaste woman.
16 The sun rises in the heights of the Lord:
thus the beauty of a woman shines in her well-decorated house.
17 Like the torch that shines on the sacred lampstand,
Such is the beauty of the face on a noble stature.
18 Like pillars of gold on bases of silver,
Such are elegant feet on sturdy heels.

19 Two things sadden my heart,
And the third one arouses my indignation:
the war man who suffers from poverty,
intelligent men who are the object of contempt;
he who passes from righteousness to sin,
the Lord THE prepares for the sword.

20. The businessman will hardly be able to avoid making a mistake.,
and the wine merchant will not be exempt from sin.

Chapter 27

1 Many sin for money,
And he who seeks to get rich looks away.
2. The dowel is inserted between the joints of the stones:
Thus sin enters between the sale and the purchase.
3 If you do not hold fast to the fear of God,
Your house will soon be destroyed.

4 When the sieve is shaken, there remains a lot of waste:
likewise the faults of a man appear in his speeches.
5 The furnace tests the potter's vessels,
And the test of man is in his conversation.
6 The fruit of a tree reveals the field that bears it door :
thus the word manifest the feelings of the man's heart.
7 Do not praise anyone before he has spoken,
because the word is the test of men.

8 If you pursue justice, you L'’will reach,
and you will put it on as if it were a robe of honor.
9. The birds gather with their own kind:
Likewise, truth returns to those who practice it.
10 The lion lies in wait for its prey:
thus sin watch those who commit injustice.

11 The speech of a pious man is always wisdom,
But the fool is as changeable as the moon.
12 To go In the midst of fools, observe the weather;
but always be among those who reflect.
13 The conversation of fools is detestable;
their laughter bursts In joy of sin.
14 The language of one who professes oaths makes the hair stand on end;
When he argues, we cover our ears.
15 The quarrels of the proud cause bloodshed,
and their insults are painful to hear.

16 He who reveals secrets loses trust,
and he will no longer find a friend to his liking.
17 Love your friend and be faithful to him;
But if you reveal his secrets, don't chase after him.
18 For just as a man kills his enemy,
Thus you have killed your friend's affection.
19 And as when You let a bird slip from your hand,
Thus you have distanced yourself from your friend, and you will never catch him again.
20 Do not pursue him, for he is far away;
he fled like a gazelle escape from the net.
21 We bandage a wound, after an insult we reconcile;
But he who has revealed secrets has no more hope.

22 He who winks his eye creates iniquity,
and no one can get rid of it.
23 In your presence, his lips will be nothing but sweetness,
he will admire your words;
but then he will change his language.,
and will give an unfortunate turn to your speeches,
24 I hate many things, but nothing so much as him;
The Lord also detests him.

25 He who throws a stone into the air throws it on his own head:
Thus, a treacherous blow inflicts wounds to the treacherous.
26 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it,
And whoever sets a net will be caught in it.
27 He who does evil will see it roll back upon him,
and he won't know where it came from.
28 Sarcasm and insult are in the mouth proud people,
But vengeance awaits them like a lion.
29 Those who rejoice in the misfortune of men pious,
and the pain will consume them before their death.

30 Resentment and anger are also detestable,
and the sinner possesses them.

Chapter 28

1 Whoever seeks revenge will find revenge with the Lord,
who will carefully preserve his sins.
2. Forgive the next her injustice,
And then, at your prayer, your sins will be forgiven.
3. The man harbors anger towards a other man,
And he asks God for his healing!…
4 He has no pity on a man, his fellow man,
and he begs for his own Mistakes!…
5 He, who is only flesh, holds a grudge;
who will obtain it for him? forgiveness of his sins?
6 Remember your end, and cease to hate;
of corruption and death, and observe the commandments.
7 Remember the commandments, and do not hold a grudge against your next ;
of the alliance of the Most High, and passes over the offense.

8 Stay away from strife, and you will sin less;
because an irascible man stirs up quarrels,
9 and the sinner causes confusion among friends,
and spreads slander among those who live in peace.
10 Fire ignites in proportion to matter who feeds it :
thus the anger of a man lights up in proportion to its power.
According to its wealth, he stirs his fury;
It flares up according to the violence of the argument.
11 A hasty quarrel ignites the fire,
and a thoughtless argument leads to bloodshed.
12 If you blow on a spark, it will catch fire;
If you spit on it, it turns off:
Both things come out of your mouth.

13 Cursed be the informer and the forked-tongued man,
because they in They lost many who lived in peace.
14 Slanderous tongues have precipitated a great number of them,
and drove them from one people to another;
She overthrew strong cities.,
and threw down the palaces of the great.
15 Slanderous tongues have driven out valiant women,
and stripped them fruit of their work.

16 Whoever listens to him will find no rest,
and he will no longer have peace in his home.
17 The blow from the rod causes bruises,
The lick breaks the bones.
18 Many perished by the edge of the sword;
but not as many as those who perished by the tongue.

19 Blessed is he who is safe from it,
who is not given over to his fury,
who did not drag his yoke,
and who was not bound by his chains!
20 For his yoke is an iron yoke,
and its chains are chains of brass.
21 The death that she given is a horrible death.,
and Sheol is better than her.

22 She will have no power over the men pious,
and they will not be burned by its flame.
23 Those who forsake the Lord will fall into it;
and it will consume them without being extinguished.

24 Look, surround your domain with a hedge of thorns,
related in your bag your gold and your silver;
25 and make a scale and weights for your speeches,
and make a door and a lock for your mouth.
26 Take care not to fail by the language,
lest you fall before the one who is watching you.

Chapter 29

1. The one who practices mercy ready to her next,
and the one who THE supports with his hand observes the commandments.
2 Ready to your next when he is in need,
And, in turn, give back to your neighbor when the time comes., what he lent you.
3 Here your speak, and act loyally with him.,
and you will find at all times what you need.

4 Many consider what we their lent,
and cause trouble for those who came to their aid.
5 Until we have received, we kiss the hand of our neighbor,
in a humble voice one praises his riches;
but when come When it comes time to submit, we allow for extensions.,
on born makes that words of complaint,
and they accuse hardness times.
6 If one has the means, the lender will receive barely half,
and will believe TO DO A find.
If we don't have any, we deprive him of his money.,
and this one, unintentionally, makes himself of his obliged an enemy,
who pays him with curses and insults,
and who, instead of honor, born gives him that the outrage.
7 Many refuse to lend because of malice men ;
They fear being unnecessarily frustrated. their money.

8 Yet be lenient towards the unfortunate,
and don't make him wait for your alms.
9 Help the poor because of the commandment divine,
and, because of his distress, do not send him away empty-handed.
10 Consent to lose your money in favor of your brother and your friend,
and that it does not rust without benefit under a stone.

11 Use your treasure according to the precepts of the Most High,
And it will benefit you more than gold.
12 Keep your alms locked away in your rooms,
and she will deliver you from all harm.
13 Better than a strong shield, better than a powerful spear,
She will fight for you in the face of the enemy.

14 A good man stands surety for his neighbor,
and that one alone abandons him, who has lost all shame.
15 Do not forget the kindnesses of the one who answered,
because he made a commitment to you.
16 The sinner causes his guarantor to lose his possessions,
and the ungrateful one abandons his savior.
17. A guarantee has led to the loss of many happy people.,
and tossed them about like the waves of the sea;
18 She banished powerful men,
and they had to wander among foreign nations.
19 The sinner is quick to stand surety,
and he who pursues gain will experience rigor judgments.
20 Attende your next, according to your power.,
and beware of falling yourself in misfortune.

21 The first things for life are water and bread,
clothing and the home to cover nudity.
22 Better is the life of the poor man under a wooden roof,
that sumptuous dishes in a House foreign.
23 That you have Whether little or much, be happy.,
[and you will not be accused of being a foreigner.]
24 It's a sad life than to go from house to house;
where we are received as a foreigner, one dares Don't open your mouth.
25 You will give your guest food and drink without being thanked,
and you will hear bitter words on top of that:
26 «Arrive, stranger, prepare the table,
And if you have anything, give me something to eat.
27 Go away, stranger, far from this magnificence;
I have my brother to receive, I need my house.»
28 It is hard, for someone who has sense,
to hear oneself criticized for’hospitality and to be insulted by his debtor.

Chapter 30

1 He who loves his son often makes him feel the whip,
in order to then have some joy.
2 He who raises his son well will reap benefits from him,
and he will boast about it in front of his acquaintances.
3 He who instructs his son will make his enemy jealous,
and he will rejoice over him in front of his friends.
4 If his father dies, it is as if he had not died.,
because he leaves behind someone who resembles him.
5 During his lifetime, he sees it and rejoices,
and, at his death, he is not grieved.
6 He leaves someone who will avenge him for his enemies,
and will demonstrate gratitude to his friends.

7 He who spoils his son will bind up his wounds,
and, with each of her cries, her insides will be moved.
8. The untamed horse becomes intractable:
Thus A son left to his own devices becomes reckless.
9 Caress your child, and he will make you tremble,
Play with him, and he will grieve you.
10 Do not laugh with him, lest you grieve with him,
and that in the end you don't grind your teeth.
11 Do not give it to him all freedom in his youth,
and does not turn a blind eye to his follies.
12 [Make his head bow in his youth,]
and bruise his sides while he is a child,
lest he become stubborn and no longer obey you,
[and that you do not have pain in your heart.]
13. Correct your son, and make him work,
lest he stumble because of your shameful weakness.

14 Better is a poor person who is healthy and strong,
that a rich man was flogged in his body through illness.
15 Health and a good complexion are worth more than all the gold,
and a vigorous body is preferable to an immense fortune.
16 There is no wealth preferable to the health of the body,
and there is no joy best that joy from the heart.
17. Death is better than a life of bitterness.,
and eternal rest instead of continual suffering.
18 Goods spilled over a closed mouth
are like offerings of food placed on a grave.
19 What is the purpose of offering something to an idol?
She did not there will not eat and will not’in won't smell it:
20 So it is with the man whom God pursues through illness :
He sees it with his own eyes, and he sighs,
like a eunuch sighing as he holds a virgin in his arms.

21 Do not abandon your soul to sadness,
And don't torment yourself with your thoughts.
22 Joy At the heart of it all lies the life of man,
and the joy of man is for him length of days.
23 Love your soul and comfort your heart,
and chase away sadness from yourself;
Grief has killed many.,
and there is no profit in it.
24 Anger and temper shorten lives,
And worries bring on old age before one's time.
25 The generous and kind heart takes care
foods that make up his diet.

Chapter 31

1 The sleepless nights of the rich consume the flesh,
and the worries him They disrupt sleep.
2. Constant worry prevents sleep,
as a serious illness banishes him.

3. The rich man works to amass wealth,
And when he rests, he is satiated with pleasures.
4 The poor man works, for lack of having the means to live,
and, when he rests, he lacks of everything.

5 He who loves gold will not be without sin,
And he who pursues corruption will be satiated.
6 Many have been destroyed because of gold,
and their downfall lay before them.
7 Gold is a stumbling block to those who sacrifice to it;
Every fool will be caught there.

8 Blessed is the rich man who is found without blemish,
And who didn't go after the gold!
9 Who is he, that we should call him blessed?
For he did a wonderful thing among his people.

10 Who is this who has been tested in this matter and found blameless?
That this ordeal be a source of glory!
Who could have raped the law and did not rape her,
To do wrong and not do it?
11 His fortune will be strengthened,
and the assembly will publicize his benefits.

12 Have you taken your seat at a well-set table,
don't open your mouth in front of her,
and do not say: "« There is "She had many dishes on her."»
13 Remember that an envious eye is an evil thing;
Has anything been created that is worse than the eye? Envious?
So he weeps with every face.
14 Where he looks, do not stretch out your hand,
and don't get into a fight with him over dinner.

15 Judge of desires of the next one according to yourself,
and act in all things with consideration.
16 Eat, as it is appropriate to a man, of what is before you,
and don't chew with noise, for fear of inspiring disgust.
17. The first one ceases out of good manners.,
and do not appear insatiable, lest you cause scandal.
18 If you are sitting in a large company,
Don't extend your hand before others.

19 How little a well-bred man needs!
Also, on his bed, he breathes freely.
20 Healthy sleep is for a sober stomach;
We get up in the morning and our minds are on ourselves.
The pains of insomnia, vomiting
And colic is for the intemperate man.
21 If you have been led to too much eat,
Get up, walk out into the open sea, and you will be relieved.
22 Listen to me, my son, and do not despise me,
and in the end you will experience the truth of my words:
In all your actions, be diligent,
and no illness will befall you.

23 Lips bless the one who is generous in his meal,
and the testimony given to his generosity is true.
24 The city murmurs against the one who is stingy with his meal,
and the testimony given to his avarice is accurate.

25 Don't be a show-off with the wine,
because the wine in caused many deaths.
26 The furnace tests the steel when it is quenched;
Likewise, wine tests hearts when the proud quarrel.
27 Wine is like life to man,
if you drink it in his just measure.
What kind of life is it for someone who lacks wine?
And certainly THE wine It was made to bring joy to men.
28 Joy of the heart and gladness of the soul,
That is wine taken at the right time, in the right measure.
29 Bitterness of the soul is like wine drunk in abundance,
while we are excited and arguing.
30 Drunkenness inflames the fury of the fool and makes him fall;
It diminishes strength and leads to injuries.

31 At a feast, do not reproach your neighbor,
and do not treat him with contempt while he is in joy;
do not speak insultingly to him,
and don't pressure him by asking him for something again.

Chapter 32

1 You have been made king of the feast? Don't rise up;
be in the middle of guests like one of them.
Take care of them, and then sit down.
2 When you have completed all your homework, take a seat,
so that you may rejoice because of them,
and, for the beautiful order of the banquet, to receive the crown.

3 Speak, old man, for it suits you,
but with accuracy and doctrine, and without hindering the music.
4 When listening music, does not lavish words,
and does not spread your wisdom out of step with the times.
5 A carbuncle seal set in gold,
like a harmonious concert at a banquet.
6 An emerald seal in a gold setting,
like a sweet melody with a pleasant wine.

7 Speak, young man, if it is of any use to you;
Barely twice, if you're asked.
8. Abridged your speech, a lot said in a few words;
be like a man who has knowledge and knows when to keep quiet.
9 In the midst of the great, don't their equal,
And where there are old men, be sparing in your speech.
10 Before the thunder, the lightning flashes:
thus in front of the young man modest steps of grace.
11 When the time comes, get up table without delay;
Run home, and don't be careless.
12 There, have fun, indulge your fantasies,
however, without resorting to insolent speeches.
13 And for all this, bless the One who created you,
and who intoxicates you with all his possessions.

14 He who fears the Lord receives instruction,
and those who THE eagerly seek will find its favor.
15 He who seeks the law will find his fulfillment there;
But for the hypocrite, it will be an occasion for downfall.
16 Those who fear the Lord will find true justice,
and they will make righteous judgments shine forth like a torch.

17 The sinner declines correction,
and he makes excuses as he pleases.
18 An intelligent man despises no advice,
But the foreigner and the proud man are not deterred by any fear,
And, after acting, they are without reflection.,
[and thus they are convicted of insanity.]

19 Do nothing without thinking,
And, after the action, you will not have to repent.
20. Do not go down a degraded path.,
and you will not stumble over the stones.
21 Do not trust in a straight path,
and be on your guard with regard to your children.

22 In everything you do, trust in your soul,
for this too is observance of the commandments.
23 He who trusts in the law pays attention to its precepts,
And he who trusts in the Lord will suffer no harm.

Chapter 33

1 No harm will befall him who fears the Lord;
But if he is tested, he will be delivered.
2 A wise man does not hate the law,
But whoever is hypocritical towards her is like a ship in a storm.
3. An intelligent man trusts in the law.,
and for him the law is trustworthy like the oracle of the Urim.

4. Prepare your speak, and thus you will be heard;
Gather your knowledge, and answer.
5 The inside of a fool is like a chariot wheel,
and his thought like a turning axle.
6. The stallion is the image of the mocking friend:
It neighs under every rider.

7. Why does one day prevail over another?,
since the light of every day of the year come Sunlight?
8 It is the wisdom of the Lord that has established distinctions between them,
he instituted times miscellaneous and parties.
9 Among the days, he y in has that he raised and sanctified,
and he y in a that he has included among the days ordinary.
10 Thus all men come dust,
of the earth of which Adam was trained.
11 But The Lord wisely distinguished them,
and made them walk in different directions.
12 He blessed some and THE raised;
He sanctified others and drew them near to himself.
Others, he THE cursed and humiliated,
and threw them from their places

13 As the clay is in the potter's hand,
and that he may dispose of it as he pleases,
Thus, men are in the hand of the One who made them.,
and he gives to them according to his judgment.
14 In the face of evil is good, in the face of death, life:
Thus, opposite the righteous is the sinner.
15 Likewise, consider all the works of the Most High:
They are in pairs, one opposite the other.

16 For me, came The last one, I devoted my nights to to wisdom,
similar to one who gleans the grapes after the grape harvest;
By the Lord's blessing, I took the initiative,
And, like the grape harvester, I filled the winepress.
17 Acknowledge that I have not worked for myself alone,
but for all those who seek wisdom.
18 Listen to me, you leaders of the people;
Speakers of the assembly, lend me your ear.

19 Nor to your son nor to your wife, nor to your brother nor to your friend,
does not give power over you during your life.,
and do not give your possessions to another,
lest, full of regret, you should have to address supplications to them.
20 As long as you live and have breath left,
do not alienate yourself to any flesh.
21 For it is better that your children ask you,
than having to look at your children's hands yourself.
22 In everything you do, remain the master,
and do not tarnish your reputation.
23 When the end of your days comes,
And when the time comes to die, distribute your inheritance.

24 To the donkey the fodder, the stick and the load;
to the slave bread, correction and the work.
25 Make your slave work, and you will be at rest;
Give him free rein, and he will seek freedom.
26 The yoke and the strap make the neck bend;
to the wicked slave, torture and pain.

27 Send him to work, so that he will not be idle,
because idleness teaches many evils.
28 Put him to work, that's what suits him;
and, if he does not obey, tighten the fetters on him;
but does not overstep the mark with anyone.,
and do nothing contrary to justice.

29 If you have a slave, let him be like yourself,
because you acquired it with blood.
30 If you have a slave, treat him as you treat yourself,
and thus you will bind it to your soul.
31 If you mistreat him and he runs away,
Which path will you take to look for it?

Chapter 34

1 The fool indulges in vain and deceptive hopes,
And dreams give wings to fools.
2. It's like trying to grasp a shadow and reach the wind,
rather than dwelling on dreams.
3 One thing after another, There what one sees in a dream;
It's like the image of a face facing another face.
4 From impurity, what pure thing can come?
From a lie, what truth can possibly emerge?
5 Divination, auguries, and dreams are vain things,
similar to the imaginings of a pregnant woman's heart.

6 Unless they are sent by the Most High on a visit,
Don't give them your heart.
7 For dreams in have led many astray,
and those who placed their hopes in them have fallen.
But The law is fulfilled without falsehood.,
as all wisdom is realized speech out from a faithful source.

9. An educated man knows many things,
And the man of great experience speaks wisely.
10 He who has not been tested knows little,
And he who has traveled possesses great prudence.
11 I have seen many things in my travels,
And my knowledge is greater than my words.
12 I have often been in mortal danger,
And I was saved thanks to that experience.

13 The spirit of those who fear the Lord will live,
for their hope is in the one who saves them.
14 He who fears the Lord will be afraid of nothing;
he does not tremble because God is his hope.
15 Blessed is the soul of the one who fears the Lord!
Who does she rely on, and who supports her?
16 The eyes of the Lord are on those who love him;
He is a powerful protector, a support full by force,
a shelter from the east wind, a shelter from the midday sun,
a guard against stumbling, a rescue against falling;
17 He lifts up the soul, he enlightens the eyes,
It gives health, life, and blessing.

18. To sacrifice ill-gotten gains, it's doing a paltry offering;
And the mockery of sinners cannot be pleasant. farewell.
19 The Most High does not accept the offerings of the wicked,
And it is not for the sake of the many victims that he forgives sins.

20 He sacrifices a son before his father's eyes,
the one who offers a sacrifice taken on the well-being of the poor.
21 The bread of the unfortunate is the life of the poor;
the one who THE In private, he is a murderer.
22 He kills his neighbor who takes away his livelihood;
He sheds blood, he who deprives the mercenary of his wages.
23 One builds and the other destroys:
What do they gain from it, if not pain?
24 One prays and the other curses:
Whose voice will the Master listen to?

25 He who washes after the contact of’a dead man who still affects him,
What does he gain from having washed himself?
26 Thus is it the same for the man who fasts for his sins,
if he will commit them again:
who will hear his prayer,
and what good will his humiliation do him?.

Chapter 35

1 He who observes the law makes many offerings;
2. He who adheres to the precepts offers a peaceful sacrifice.
3 Whoever gives thanks makes an offering of fine flour;
4 who practices mercy offers a sacrifice of praise.
5 What pleases the Lord is that we turn away from evil;
What earns his forgiveness is the flight from injustice.

Yet do not present yourself before the Lord hands empty,
7 because all these offerings must be done because of the precept.
8 The offering of the righteous fattens the altar,
and its sweet scent rises before the Lord.
9 The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable,
and his memory will not be forgotten

10 Glorify the Lord with a generous heart,
and do not take anything away from the first fruits of your hands.
11 In all your offerings, have a joyful countenance,
and dedicates your tithe with joy.
12 Give to the Most High according to what he has given you,
with a generous heart, according to what your hands have earned.
13 For the Lord repays,
and he will repay you seven times as much.

14 Ne look for not to THE corrupt by gifts, for he does not THE would not receive
15 and do not rely on an unjust offering.
For the Lord is a judge,
and he does not take into account the rank of the people.
16 He shows no partiality to the detriment of the poor,
and he listens to the prayer of the oppressed.
17 He does not disdain the orphan who begs,
nor the widow who pours out her complaint.

18 Do not the widow's tears flow on his cheeks,
19 and his cry Doesn't it burst? on the one who makes them pay?

20 He who honors God in the way that him will please GOOD welcomed,
and his prayer rises to the heavens.

21 The prayer of the humble will penetrate the clouds;
He will not be consoled that she did not arrive up to God;
It will not cease until the Most High has looked upon it,
And the Lord will judge according to equity and render justice.
22 The Lord will not keep us waiting,
he will no longer have patience with the oppressors ;

until he had broken the backs of these merciless men,
23 and that he took vengeance on the nations;
until he has annihilated the crowd of blasphemers,
and smashed the scepters of the wicked;
24 until he has repaid man according to his deeds,
And paid the works of men according to their thoughts;
25 until he has taken up the cause of his people,
and that he gladdened him with his mercy.
26 Mercy is beautiful in the time of oppression ofIsrael,
like the clouds loaded of rain during times of drought.

Chapter 36

1 Have mercy on us, Master, God of the universe, and look;
2 and spread your terror over all nations.
3 Raise your hand against foreign peoples,
and let them feel your power!
4 Just as you showed your holiness before them in us punishing,
Thus, show your greatness before us by... punishing ;
5 and that they learn, as we ourselves have learned,
that there is no other God but you, Lord!

6 Renew the wonders, and repeat the marvels;
7 glorify your hand and your right arm.
8 Wake up your wrath and spread your anger ;
9. Destroy the opponent and annihilate the enemy.
10 Hasten the time and remember the oath;
and let us celebrate your great deeds!
11 May he who escapes be consumed by blazing fire,
and may those who mistreat your people find their loss.
12. Crush the heads of the enemy leaders,
who say, "It's just us!"«

13 Gather all the tribes of Jacob,
and restore to them the inheritance as it was in the beginning.
14 Lord, have mercy on your people, who are called by your name,
and of Israel, whom you have made like a firstborn son.
15 Have compassion on the city of your sanctuary,
from Jerusalem, the place of your rest.

16 Fill Zion with your oracles,
and your people of your glory.
17 Give your testimony to those who are your creatures from the very beginning,
and fulfill the promises do on your behalf.
18. Reward those who have faith in you,
and that your prophets may be found to be truthful.
Hear, O Lord, the prayer of those who implore you,
19 according to the blessing of Aaron upon your people;
and that all the inhabitants of the earth recognize
that you are the Lord, the God of ages!

20 The stomach receives all kind of food,
but one food is better than another.
21 The palate can distinguish wild game by taste:
thus the sensible heart recognizes lying.
22 A perverse heart causes sorrow,
But the experienced man warns himself against him.
23 The woman receives everything species husband,
But one girl is better than another.
24 The beauty of a woman gladdens the face,
and surpasses all human desires.
25 If kindness And gentleness are on his tongue
her husband is no longer a simple child of men.
26 He who acquires a wife has the foundation of his fortune,
an aid similar to him and a supporting column.
27 Where there is no hedge, the estate is open to plunder;
where there is no woman, the’man wanderer moaned.
28 He who trusts the agile brigand,
who runs from city to city?
So it is with the man who has no home,
and who takes up residence wherever night finds him.

Chapter 37

1 Every friend says, «I too am your friend ; "»
But such a friend is only a friend in name.
2 Is it not a grief unto death?,
When do companions and friends turn into enemies?
3 O perverse thought, from where did you come?,
to cover the earth with deceit?
4 A friend's companion rejoices in his joys,
And, in times of adversity, it turns against him!
5 A companion shares his friend's sorrow for the sake of his own stomach,
and, faced with the fight, he takes her shield !
6 Don't forget your friend in your heart,
and, amidst opulence, do not lose sight of it.

7 Every advisor gives advice,
But there are those who give advice in their own interest.
8 When dealing with an advisor, be on your guard,
and first seeks to understand what his interest is,
— because it is for himself that he will advise, —
so that he doesn't cast a spell on you,
9 and let him not say, «Your way is good»;
Then he will stand on the other side to see what happens to you.
10. Do not consult a man who looks at you from below.,
and hide your resolve from the one who envies you.
11 Do not consult a woman on her rival,
a coward on the war,
a merchant at a trade,
a buyer at a sale,
an envious person regarding recognition,
A man without compassion for a charitable act,
a lazy person doing any kind of work,
a mercenary from the house on completion of a job,
a lazy slave on a big job:
Don't rely on these people for any advice.
12 But be diligent in the presence of a godly man,
whom you know as an observer of the commandments,
whose heart is after your heart,
and who, if you fall, will suffer with you.
13 Then stick to what your heart tells you,
because no one is more loyal to you than he.
14 For the soul of man sometimes announces more things
that seven sentinels were posted on a height to observe.
15 And with all this, pray to the Most High,
so that he may surely guide your path.

16 Before all work comes the word:
Before any undertaking, reflection is key.
17 Four things appear as evidence of the change in the heart:
18 good and evil, life and death;
and language is still their master.

19 Such a man is prudent and a teacher to many,
but it is useless to itself.
20 He who feigns wisdom in his speech is odious;
He will eventually run out of food.
21 For the Lord has not shown him favor,
because he is devoid of all wisdom.

22 Tel wise is wise for himself,
and the fruits of his knowledge are assured on his lips.
23 The wise man instructs his people,
and the fruits of his knowledge are assured.
24 The wise man is filled with blessings,
and all those who THE They see him and proclaim him happy.
25 Man's life is number restricted days,
But the days of Israel are countless.
26 The wise man gains trust among his people,
and his name will live forever.

27 My son, consider your way of life;
see what is harmful to him and do not THE Don't give it to him.
28 For not everything is good for everyone,
and not everyone finds well-being in everything.
29 Do not be insatiable over every treat,
and do not greedily devour the food;
30 because excessive eating brings discomfort,
and intemperance leads to colic.
31 Many have died because of intemperance,
but he who abstains prolongs its life.

Chapter 38

1. Go to the doctor for your needs the honors that him are due;
for he too is the Lord who L'’created.
2 For healing comes from the Most High,
and the king himself He receives gifts.
3. The doctor's science raises its head,
and he is admired in the presence of the powerful.

4 The Lord causes the earth to produce its medicines,
and a sensible man does not disdain them.
5 Has not wood softened bitter water?,
so that her virtue might be known to all?
6 He gave men knowledge,
to glorify himself through his donations wonderful.
7 By them the man It brings healing and removes pain.
8 The pharmacist makes mixtures from it,
and his work is barely finished
that through him prosperity may spread across the face of the earth.

My son, If you are sick, don't neglect my advice,
But pray to the Lord, and he will heal you.
10 Turn away from transgression, straighten your hands,
and purifies your the heart of all sin.
11 Offer incense and an offering of flour,
and sacrifices fat victims, as if it were all over for you.
12 Then give access to the physician, for he too was created by the Lord,
and that he does not leave you, for you need him.

13 Sometimes their hands are successful,
14 for they too will pray to the Lord,
so that he will grant them to procure rest
and healing, for extend the life of the patient.
15 Let him who sins before his Creator
falls into the hands of the doctor!

16 My son, shed tears over a dead man,
And, as if you were suffering cruelly, the lamentation begins.
Then give his body the care it deserves.,
and does not neglect his burial.
17 She sheds bitter tears, exhales burning sighs,
and mourn, as he deserves,
one or two days, to avoid any bad talk.
Then console yourself, for move away sadness;
18 For death can come from sorrow,
and the heart's sorrow overwhelms all vigor.

19 When we take one dead, The grief must pass. with him,
as the life of the poor is against her heart.
20 Do not give your heart over to sadness;
Chase it away, remembering your end.
21 Do not forget: there is no going back;
you will not be useful to dead, and you will harm yourself.
22 Remember that the judgment against him will be the same for you:
«"For me yesterday, for you today."»
23 When the dead rest, let their memory rest,
and find comfort concerning him, at the departure of his spirit.

24 The scribe's wisdom is acquired through leisure,
and the one who doesn't have to worry business will become wise.

25 How can he who guides the plow become wise?,
whose ambition is to handle, in place of a spear, the goad;
who urges on his oxen and joins in their work,
and only knows how to talk about the little bulls?
26 He puts his whole heart into plowing furrows,
careful attention to procure the fodder his heifers.
27 The same applies to every carpenter and builder,
who are pursuing their occupations night as well as day;
of the one who engraves the impressions of the seals:
its application is to vary the figures;
He puts his heart into reproducing the drawing.,
meticulous care to perfect his work.
28 Such is the blacksmith sitting near her anvil,
and considering the iron still in its raw state;
The steam from the fire melts his flesh.,
and it withstands the heat of the furnace;
The sound of the hammer deafened his ear.,
and his eye is fixed on the model of the utensil.
He puts his heart into perfecting his work.,
meticulous care is taken to polish it to perfection.
29 Tel Again the potter sitting at his work,
and turning the wheel with his feet:
He is constantly preoccupied with his work.,
and all his efforts tend to provide A a number of vases.
30 With his arm he shapes the clay,
and before her feet he makes it flexible;
He puts his heart into perfecting the varnish.,
Careful attention must be taken to clean your oven.

31 These kinds of people are waiting All from their hands,
and each of them is skilled in their profession.
32 Without them we would not build none city,
We wouldn't go abroad, we wouldn't travel.
33 But they shall not be sought in the council of the people,
and they will not distinguish themselves in the assembly;
they will not have the knowledge of the alliance of law;
they will not take their place in the judge's seat;
They will not interpret justice and the law.,
and we won't find them for state sentences.
34 However, they support the things of the time,
and their prayer relates to the work of their trade.

Chapter 39

It is otherwise than one who applies his mind,
and who meditates on the law of the Most High!
He seeks the wisdom of all the elders.,
and he devotes his leisure time to prophecies.
2 He keeps in his memory the stories of famous men,
and he delves into the intricacies of the sentences.
3 He seeks the hidden meaning of proverbs,
and he deals with enigmatic sentences.
4. He serves in the midst of the great,
and he appears before the prince.
He travels to the lands of foreign peoples.,
because he wants to know good and evil among men.
5 He sets his heart to go early in the morning
to the Lord who made it:
He prays in the presence of the Most High,
he opens his mouth for prayer
and he asks pardon for his sins.

6 If it is the will of the Lord, who is great,
he will be filled with the spirit of intelligence;
SO He will pour forth a torrent of words of wisdom,
and, in its In prayer, he will give thanks to the Lord.
7 He will know how to direct his prudence and his knowledge,
and he will study the mysteries divine.
8 He will publish the doctrine of his teaching,
and he will boast in the law of the covenant of the Lord.
9 Many will praise his intelligence,
and he will never be forgotten;
His memory will not fade.,
and his name will live on from age to age.
10 The people will tell of his wisdom,
and the assembly will celebrate his praises.
11 As long as he is alive, his name remains more illustrated that a thousand others ;
And when he rests, his glory will increase even more.

12 I still want to publish the fruit of my thoughts,
for I am filled, like the moon in its fullness.
13 Listen to me, devout sons, and grow,
like a rose on the bank of a flowing stream:
14 Spread them like incense, your sweet scent;
make your flower bloom, like the lily;
exhale your perfume and sing a hymn,
Celebrate the Lord for all his works.
15 Give glory to his name,
proclaim his praise,
in the songs of your lips and on your harps,
And, in celebrating it, you will say:

16 All the works of the Lord are very good,
And everything he has commanded will be fulfilled in its time.
17 We must not say: "That«is it that What? serves-he ? "»
for everything will be sought in its time.
At his word, the water gathered together like a heap,
and, at a word from his mouth, there was water reservoirs.
18 By his command, what pleases him arrived,
and no one can stop the salvation that he send.

19 The works of all flesh are before him,
and one cannot hide from its sight.
20 His gaze, reaching from eternity to eternity,
And there is nothing surprising in his presence.
21 We must not say: "That«is it that What? serves-he ? "»
because everything was created for its purpose.
22 The blessing of Lord overflows like a river.,
and, like a flood, it waters the earth.
23 Likewise, he will divide his wrath among the nations,
as he changed one country well watered in a region of salt.
24 Its paths are straight for the men saints,
and likewise they are for the wicked occasions of stumbling.

25. Goods were created for the good from the beginning.,
and, likewise, evils for the wicked.
26 That which is of primary necessity for human life,
It is water, fire, iron, and salt.,
wheat flour, honey and milk,
the blood of the grape, the oil and the garment.
27 All these things are good for the men pious,
but turn into evils for the fishermen.

28 There are winds that were created for vengeance,
and, in their fury, they unleash their plagues.
On the day of destruction, they will unleash their power,
and will appease the wrath of the One who made them.
29 Fire and hail, famine and plague,
all these things were created for punishment;
30 as well as the teeth of ferocious beasts, scorpions and vipers,
and the deadly sword of extermination against the wicked.
31 These creatures rejoice in the command of Lord,
They stand ready on earth for the need,
and, in the times marked, They do not disobey his orders.

32 That is why I have been firm in my thoughts from the beginning,
And, after meditating on them, I wrote them down:
33 All the works of the Lord are good,
and he provides for every need in due time.
34 There is no reason to say, "This is worse than that,"«
for everything will be recognized in its time. Good.
35 And now sing with all your heart and mouth,
and bless the name of the Lord.

Chapter 40

1. To every man great hardship has been imposed,
and a heavy yoke is upon the children of men,
from the day they emerge from their mother's womb,
until the day of their burial in the breast of the common mother.
What is troubling their thoughts and made their hearts fear,
This is the thought of their expectation, It is the fear of death.

3 From the man who sits on a throne in glory,
until the unfortunate sat on the ground and on the ashes;
4 from him who wears the purple and the crown,
until miserable, covered with a coarse cloth,
5. Anger, envy, turmoil, agitation,
the fear of death, bitterness and quarrels are the share of all ;
and, during the time when each one is resting on his bed,
Sleep at night disrupts his thoughts.
6 He rests for a moment, so little as to be nothing,
and immediately dreams trouble him;
He feels as if he is on sentry duty during the day.,
He is frightened by the vision in his mind.,
as a man who flees from the fight.
7 At the time of deliverance, he awakens,
and is astonished by his futile fear.
So it is of all flesh, from man to beast,
and for the fishermen, seven times more.
9 Plague, murder, discord, the sword,
[calamities, famine, destruction and others plagues]:
10 All this was created against the fishermen,
because it was because of them that the flood happened.

11 Everything that come From the earth returns to the earth,
like what come waters flow down to the sea.
12 Every gift and every unjustly acquired possession will perish,
but the Good Faith will endure forever.
13 The wealth of the unjust will dry up like a stream,
and like a loud thunderclap during the downpour.
14 The man who knows how to open his hand will rejoice,
But the corrupt will suffer total ruin.
15 The offspring of the wicked do not put forth many branches,
and the unclean roots are on the steep rock.
16 The reed that grows near water and on the bank of a river
is pulled up before any other grass.
17 Kindness is like a blessed garden,
and benevolence remains forever.

18 Sweet is the life of the self-sufficient man And of the worker;
more than both, the life of the one who finds a treasure:
19 Children and the founding of a city perpetuate a name:
More than either of those, a woman is considered irreproachable.
20 Wine and music gladden the heart:
More than either of them, the love of wisdom.
21 The flute and the harp produce sweet sounds:
More than just two, a benevolent language.
22 Grace and beauty delight your eyes:
More than either of those, the greenery of the fields.
23. Friend and companion meet at certain times:
More than just the two of them, the woman with her husband.
24 The Brothers and the Relief are for the time of affliction:
More than either, charity delivers.
25 Gold and silver make the feet firm:
More than either of those, prudence is considered.
26 Wealth and strength uplift the heart:
More than either of those, the fear of the Lord.
With the fear of the Lord, one lacks nothing;
With her, there is no need to beg for help.
27 The fear of the Lord is like a blessed garden,
And the Lord It clothes her in unparalleled glory.

28 My son, may you not lead a life of begging;
It is better to die than to beg.
29 When a man is reduced to look towards someone else's table,
His life could not be counted as a life.
Because He defiles his soul with foreign foods,
This is something that an educated and well-bred man will avoid.
30 In the mouth of the man Begging is sweet without shame;
but, in its entrails, it burns like a fire.

Chapter 41

1 O death, how bitter is your memory
to the man who lives peacefully amidst his riches,
to the man free from worries and who prospers in all things,
and who is still able to enjoy the pleasures of the table!

2 O death, your pause is pleasant,
to the needy, to those whose strength is exhausted,
to the old man, burdened with years and tormented by a thousand cares,
to the one who does not submit to his fate and who has lost hope.

3 Do not fear the sentence of death:
Remember those who came before you and those who will come later.
4 This is the decree of the Lord on all flesh;
And why rebel against the good pleasure of the Most High?
That you have lived ten years, one hundred, one thousand:
In Sheol, one is no longer in trouble of the duration of life.

5 The sons of sinners are abominable,
those who frequent the homes of the wicked.
6 The inheritance of the children of sinners will perish,
and shame is attached to their descendants.
7 The children of an ungodly father him throw the insult,
because it is because of him that they are in disgrace.

8 Woe to you, ungodly men,
who have abandoned the law of the Most High God!
9 If you are born, you are born to be cursed,
And if you die, the curse will be your lot.
10 Everything that is of the earth returns to the earth:
Thus the wicked go from curse to ruin.

11 Men grieve over their bodies,
but the hateful name of the sinners will be destroyed.
12 Take care of your name because it will remain with you,
more a long time than a thousand great treasures of gold.
13 We count the days of a good life,
But a beautiful name remains forever.

14 My Children, peacefully observe my instructions:

Hidden wisdom and invisible treasure,
What purpose do they each serve?
15 Better is the man who conceals his folly,
than the man who hides his wisdom.

16 So be ashamed of the things I am going to YOU say.
Because not all shame is worth keeping,
and not all things are judged by everyone according to the truth.

17 Be ashamed of sexual immorality before your father and mother,
and of lying, before the prince and the powerful;
18 of the offense, before the judge and the magistrate,
of the transgression of the law, before the assembly and the people;
of injustice, in the presence of a companion and a friend,
19 of the theft, in front of the neighbors.
In the name of God's truth and of her alliance,
shame on you to rest your elbow on the loaves;
to earn your contempt by taking and giving,
20 and of keep silence in the face of those who greet you;
to watch a debauched woman,
21 and to turn away the face of a relative;
of him take its part and her Don,
and to observe a married woman;
22 to have familiarities with your servant,
and do not stand near his bed;
shame on you offensive words in front of your friends,
and does not reproach after having given.

Chapter 42

Shame on you to repeat what you heard,
and to reveal secret things.
That way you will be truly ashamed.,
and you will find favor in the sight of all men.

Do not be ashamed of these things,
and do not show favoritism to commit sin:
2 of the law of the Most High and of her alliance,
of the sentence that justifies the impious,
3. To converse with companions and passers-by,
to give some property to your friends,
4. To use fair scales and fair weights,
to acquire a lot or a little,
5. To make no distinction in sales and with merchants,
to severely punish your children,
and to beat a wicked slave until he bled.
6 With a wicked woman, the seal is good;
And where there are many hands, put it under lock and key.
7 What you deliver to your people, Count it and weigh it,
and write down what you give and what you receive.
Don't blush to rebuke the fool and the idiot,
and the old man who argues with young people.
And Thus you will be truly educated,
and approved by everyone.

9 A daughter is a secret worry for her father;
The worry she causes him keeps him awake at night:
As a young girl, she may well be in the prime of her life;
married to a husband, she him it might become hateful;
As a virgin (10), she could be easily seduced.,
and become pregnant in her father's house;
With a husband, she might be unfaithful.,
and, living with him, perhaps she will remain sterile.
11. Exercise strict vigilance with regard to a stubborn girl.
for fear that she would make you the laughingstock of your enemies,
the fable of the city and the subject of public discourse,
and do not disgrace yourself in the presence of all the people.

12 Do not look at the beauty of every man,
and do not sit in the midst of women;
13 For moths come out of clothing,
and of the woman, feminine malice.
14 A wicked man is better than a loving woman,
because the woman brings shame and reproach.

15 I will recall the works of the Lord,
and publish what I saw.
It is by the word of the Lord that his works have been done.
16 The sun which THE light THE contemplates them all;
the work of Lord, He is filled with his glory.
17 The Lord has not made his saints capable
to announce all its wonders,
which the Almighty Lord has firmly established,
so that the whole universe may be established by his glory.

18 He probes the depths of the ocean and the heart men,
and he knows their most subtle designs.
For the Lord possesses all knowledge,
And he sees the signs of the times.
19 It announces the past and the future,
and it reveals traces of hidden things.
20 No thought escapes him,
No word is hidden from him.

21 He adorned the great works with his wisdom;
he is before all through the centuries, and it will endure forever;
Nothing has been added to his being, and nothing was removed from it;
and he didn't need any advisors.
22 How beautiful all his works are!
And what we contemplate of it n’East that’a spark.
23 Everything is alive and remains forever,
for all uses,
and everything obeys to the Creator.
24 Everything is in pairs, one individual opposite another,
and he did nothing that would lead to ruin.
25. One ensures the happiness of the other:
who will be able to satiate themselves with seeing the glory of Lord ?

Chapter 43

1 The pride of the heights is the firmament in its pure splendor;
and the appearance of the sky is a vision of glory.
2 The sun, when it appears, glorifies the Lord, at his rising;
It is a marvelous creature, the work of the Most High.
3 At midday it dries up the earth;
Who can resist his passions?
4. For his work, the craftsman ignites the fire in the furnace:
The sun heats the mountains three times more.
It ignites the vapors in the air,
And when it shines its rays, it dazzles the eyes.
5 Great is the Lord who made it,
and, on his orders, he accelerates his race.

6 The moon too is always faithful, at the hour which he is assigned ;
it indicates the times of the year, and foreshadows the future.
7 From the moon come the signal for the holidays;
Its light diminishes when it reaches its full intensity.
8 The month takes its name from her;
It grows wonderfully in its various phases.
This is a tent in a camp high in the mountains. from the heavens ;
It shines brightly in the firmament of the sky.
9 The beauty of the sky is the brilliance of the stars,
resplendent adornment in the heights of the Lord.
10. According to the Saint's order, they stand in their assigned place,
and do not tire in their vigils.

11 Look at the rainbow and bless the One who made it;
It is truly beautiful in its splendor!
12 He embraces the sky in his radiant circle;
these are the hands of the Most High Who they extend it.

13 At his command, the snow rushes down,
and the lightning bolts hurry, executors of his judgments.
14 That is why his treasures are revealed,
and the clouds fly like birds.
15 By his power, he gives strength to the clouds,
and the hail falls like shards of stone.
16 The voice of his thunder makes the earth tremble,
And when he appears, the mountains tremble.
17 At his will, the south wind blows,
the north wind unleashes its fury and the whirlwind rages.
It scatters the snow like birds swooping down;
She descends like a grasshopper pausing.
18 The eye admires the beauty of its whiteness,
and the heart is amazed by its fall.
19 He pours frost on the earth like salt,
and the frost hardens it into thorny points.

20 The cold north wind begins to blow,
and the water hardens into ice;
this ice lies motionless over any body of water,
and covers the water as if with a breastplate.
21 The Lord devours the mountains and sets the desert ablaze,
It burns the greenery like fire.
22 of all these ailments the remedy is a cloud that arrives quickly;
a dew that comes, consoles the heat burning hot.
23 According to his purpose, he subdued the abyss,
and he planted islands there.
24 Those who sail the sea tell of its perils,
and, upon hearing their stories, We are surprised.
25 There are strange and wonderful creatures,
animals of all kinds and the race of sea monsters.
26 By the Lord, Everything, fortunately, comes to an end.,
and all things subsist by his word.

27 We could say a lot, and we will not L'’would not reach;
The summary of OUR speech: He is everything.
28 Wanting If we were to rent it, where would we find the strength?
He is the Almighty, superior to all his works.
29 The Lord is awesome and supremely great,
And wondrous is its power.
30 In praising the Lord, exalt-THE as long as you can,
because it will always be even higher.
To exalt it, gather all your strengths;
Do not tire, for you will not will be able to’reach.
31 Who has seen it and could discuss it?
Who is capable of praising it as it is?
32 Many hidden wonders are even greater,
because we only see a small number of his works.
33 The Lord has done everything,
and he gives wisdom to the pious.

Chapter 44

1 Let us therefore praise illustrious men,
and the fathers of our race.
In them the Lord has worked glorious wonders,
he demonstrated its greatness from the very beginning.

They were sovereigns in their kingdoms,
men renowned for their power,
advisors filled of wisdom,
announcing the divine will by their prophecies,
4 of the people's guides by their advice and their caution,
doctors of the people, who instructed him with wise speeches;
5 of men cultivating the art of holy melodies,
and who have written down poetic stories;
6 of the rich, having abundant possessions,
living peacefully in their homes:
all these men were honored by their contemporary,
all were the glory of their time.

8 Among them are those who have left behind a name,
so that we can tell their praise.
9 There are some of whom there is no longer any memory,
They perished as if they had never existed;
They became as if they had never been born.,
And, likewise, their children after them.
10 The first they were pious men,
whose virtues have not been forgotten.
11 Happiness remains attached to their race,
and an inheritance is assured to their children.
12 Their breed is preserved faithful to the alliances,
and their children because of them.
13 Their descendants remain forever,
and their glory will never be erased.
14 Their bodies were buried in peace,
and their name lives on from age to age.
15 The people celebrate their wisdom,
and the assembly publishes their praises.

16 Enoch was pleased with the Lord, and he was deported,
An example of penance for future generations.

17 Noah was found perfect And just ;
In times of anger, he was the ransom of humanity.
That is why a remnant was left to the earth,
when the flood arrived.
18 An everlasting covenant was made with him,
so that all flesh would no longer be destroyed by a flood.

19 Abraham is the illustrious father of a multitude of nations,
and no one was found to equal him in glory.
20 He kept the law of the Most High,
and he entered into an alliance with him.
He established this covenant in his very flesh,
And, in the face of adversity, he proved faithful.
21 Also God he assured him under oath
that nations would be blessed through his lineage;
he promised her to multiply it like the dust of the earth,
to raise his posterity like the stars,
to bequeath to them as an inheritance from the sea to the’other sea,
from the river to the ends of the earth.

22 In the same way he confirmed in Isaac,
because of his father Abraham,
the blessing of all peoples and the alliance.

23 And he laid it afterward on Jacob's head;
he took him into consideration in his blessings;
he gave it to him the country as an inheritance;
He divided it into various portions.,
and divided them among the twelve tribes.

Chapter 45

1 He brought out of Jacob a pious man,
who found favor with all flesh,
a man Beloved by God and men, Moses:
May his memory be a blessing!
2 He bestowed upon him a glory equal to that of the saints,
He made him great through terrors. that he inspired to the enemies.
3 By his word he put an end to the wonders;
He glorified him before the kings;
He gave him commandments for his people,
and he showed him a ray of his glory.
4 Because of his faith and gentleness, he L'’dedicated,
He chose him from among all mortals.
5 He made his voice heard,
and brought it into the cloud;
He gave him commandments face to face,
the law of life and science,
so that he might teach Jacob his covenant,
and its decrees to Israel.

6 He raised up Aaron, a holy man like himself,
his brother, from the tribe of Levi.
7 He made an everlasting covenant with him,
and gave him the priesthood of her people.
He adorned it with a splendid adornment,
and girded him with the robe of glory.
8 He clothed him in supreme magnificence,
and assigned him garments of honor:
the underpants, the long tunic and the ephod.
9 He surrounded it with pomegranates,
with many small golden bells all around,
which were supposed to ring out when he walked,
and make themselves heard their sound in the temple;
it was a memorial for the sons of his people.
10 He surrounded him sacred clothing,
woven of gold, of hyacinth
and of purple, the work of the embroiderer;
of the rationale of judgment, with the Urim and the Thummim,
made of scarlet thread, the work of an artist;
11 with precious stones, engraved like seals,
and set in gold, the work of a lapidary,
to serve as a memorial, with names inscribed on it,
according to the number of the tribes of Israel.
12 He put it on him on the tiara, the golden crown,
bearing these engraved words: Holy of the Lord,
badge of honor, perfect work,
A feast for the eyes, a magnificent adornment.
13 Nothing like it had ever been before him and will not be Never ;
No foreigner has put it on, but only his sons,
and his descendants throughout the ages.

14 His burnt offerings will be offered,
twice every day, without interruption.
15 Moses filled his hands,
and anointed him with holy oil.
For him, it was an eternal covenant.,
and for his race, as long as they last the days of the sky,
to serve the Lord and to fulfill the functions of the priesthood,
and to bless his people by her name.
16 The Lord chose him from among all the living,
to present him with the offering,
the perfume and the sweet scent as a souvenir,
and to make atonement sins of his people.
17 He gave him, in his commandments,
authority over the holy ordinances,
to teach Jacob his precepts,
and teach his law to Israel.

18 Foreigners conspired against him,
and were jealous of him in the desert:
the men of Dathan and Abiron's party,
and the band of Korah, ardent and furious.
19 The Lord saw it and was not pleased,
and they were exterminated in the heat of its anger ;
He performed wonders against them,
and consumed them with the flame of his fire.

20 And he increased Aaron's glory,
and assigned him an inheritance:
he gave him as a share the first fruits of the earth ;
First of all, he prepared bread to feed them.
21 They feed on the sacrifices of the Lord,
that he gave to Aaron and to his descendants.
22 But he has no inheritance in the land of the people,
and he has no share in the nation,
because, said the Lord, «"I will be your share and your legacy. "»

23 Phinehas, son of Eleazar, is the third in glory,
in that he showed zeal in the fear of the Lord,
and that, in the defection of the people, he remained steadfast,
in the noble courage of his soul,
and made atonement for Israel.
24 Therefore a covenant of peace was made with him,
who did it chief of the priests and of his people,
so that it might belong to him and his descendants
forever the august dignity of the priesthood.
25 There was also a covenant with David, son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah;
the king's legacy pass only from son to son,
while Aaron's legacy belongs has all his descendants.
26 May the Lord give you, O high priests, the wisdom in your heart,
to judge his people justly,
so that its prosperity does not disappear,
nor its glory in future ages!

Chapter 46

1 He was valiant at the war, Joshua son of Nun,
who succeeded Moses in the dignity of prophet,
and who, upon verifying his name, showed himself
great in the deliverance of the chosen ones of Lord,
by punishing the enemies who have risen up,
in order to put Israel in possession of the country.
2 With what glory he covered himself when he raised his hands,
and stretched out his sword against the cities!
3 Who before him had ever maintained so many battles,
when the Lord himself brought the enemies?
4 The sun, at gesture Hasn't his hand regressed?,
And was not one day the same as two? days ?
5 He invoked the Most High Sovereign
while he pressed the enemies from all sides;
And the Lord Almighty heard it,
with hailstones of great strength.
The Lord descended upon the hostile nation,
and caused the enemy to perish in the defile,
so that the nations may know all the weapons of Joshua,
And learn that the war that he supported was before the Lord;
because he followed the Almighty.
Already, In the days of Moses, he had shown his piety,
he and Caleb, son of Jephone,
by standing firm against the enemy,
by preventing the people from sinning,
and by silencing the murmur of the wicked.
8 So these two men were alone preserved,
of six hundred thousand foot soldiers,
to be included in the inheritance,
in the land where milk and honey flow.
9 And the Lord gave strength to Caleb,
— and she remained with him until old age, —
so that he could climb to the highest peaks in the region,
and that his posterity preserved this legacy :
10 so that all the children of Israel may recognize
It is good to follow the Lord.

11 And the Judges, each according to his name,
all those whose hearts have not given themselves over to fornication,
all those who have not turned away from the Lord,
May their memory be a blessing!
12 May their bones bloom again from the depths of their tomb,
that their name is renewed
in the children of these men illustrious!

13 Samuel was loved by the Lord his God;
He was the Lord's prophet, and he established the kingdom.,
and he anointed princes to order at his people.
14 He judged the assembly according to the law of the Lord,
and the Lord looked down on Jacob.
15 By his truthfulness he proved himself a prophet;
His veracity was recognized as that of a trustworthy seer.
16 He called upon the Sovereign Lord,
when his enemies pressed him from all sides,
and he offered a lamb still suckling.
17 And the Lord thundered from the top from the sky,
and, with great splendor, he made his voice heard;
18 and he crushed the leaders of the Tyrians,
and all the Philistine princes.
19 Before the time of eternal sleep,
Samuel called the Lord to witness and her Anointed:
«"From no one I received
No donations, not even sandals;»
and no man stood up to accuse him.
20 And when he had fallen asleep, he prophesied,
And he announced to the king his end. next.
From the breast From the earth, he raised his voice
by prophesying, in order to blot out the iniquity of the people.

Chapter 47

1 Then Nathan appeared,
to prophesy in the days of David.
2. As the fat is separated from the thanksgiving offering,
so David was set aside among the children of Israel.
3 He played with the lions as with young goats,
with bears as with young lambs.
4 In his youth, did he not kill the giant,
and removed the people's disgrace,
when he raised his hand with the stone from his sling,
and brought down the insolence of Goliath?
5 For he called upon the Lord Most High,
And the Lord gave strength to his right hand,
to put the powerful warrior to death,
to raise the horn of his people.
6 Therefore he was celebrated because of the ten thousand,
He was praised because of the blessings of the Lord,
and he was offered the crown of glory.
7 For he crushed the enemies on all sides,
he trampled underfoot the Philistines, the adversaries;
He broke their power until this day.
8 In all his undertakings, he paid homage,
to the Holy One, the Most High, in words of praise,
With all his heart, he sang hymns,
and he loved the One who had made it.
9 He appointed singers before the altar,
and, through their voices, he made sweet melodies heard.
10 He gave splendor to the celebrations,
and a sovereign splendor for the solemnities,
while the singers celebrate the holy name of Lord,
and that, from early morning, they make the sanctuary resound.
11 The Lord forgave him his sins,
and he raised his power forever;
He ensured him a line of kings.,
and the throne of glory in Israel.

12 After him arose a son full of wisdom;
due to his father, He lived in prosperity.
13 Solomon reigned in days of peace,
God having granted him rest all around,
so that he might build a temple in his name,
and prepare an eternal sanctuary.

14 As you were wise in your youth,
and overflowing with intelligence, like a river!
15 Your spirit has covered the earth,
and you L'’as filled with sentences with hidden meanings.
16 Your name has reached even the distant islands,
and you were loved in your peace.
17 For your hymns, your proverbs, your parables
And your Answers, the world admired you.
18 In the name of the Lord God,
who is called the God of Israel,
You have amassed gold like tin,
and heaped up the silver like lead.

19 You gave yourself to women
and you have given power over your body;
20 You have imprinted a stain on your glory,
and you have defiled your race,
And so you have brought anger upon your children.
I feel a cruel pain for your madness;
21 she was the cause that the empire was divided in two,
and that from Ephraim arose the leader of a rebellious kingdom.
22 But the Lord will not abandon his mercy,
And none none of his works will perish.
He will not destroy the legacy of his chosen one,
and will not destroy the race of the one who loved him.
He left Jacob a remnant,
and to David a descendant of his breed.

23 Solomon rested with his ancestors,
and he left behind him, of his race,
son, insane eyes of the people, lacking prudence,
Rehoboam, who led the people to turn away from his advice,
and Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin,
and opened the way of transgression to Ephraim.
24 And the sins of Israelites multiplied excessively,
so that they were taken far from their country.
25 They pursued all kinds of iniquities,
until revenge came melt on them.

Chapter 48

1 Then Elijah, a prophet like fire, arose,
and his words blazed like a torch.
2 He brought famine on Israel,
and, through his zeal, he reduced them to a small number.
3 By the word of the Lord, he shut up the heavens;
Similarly, he in three times it extinguished the fire.
4 How glorious you have become, O Elijah, by your wonders,
And who could boast of being like you?
5 You who raised a corpse breast of death,
and from Sheol, by the word of the Most High;
6 You who have brought kings down,
and illustrious figures from their bed in death ;
7 You who heard the admonitions on Sinai,
and on Horeb decrees of vengeance;
8 you who have crowned kings for exercise revenge,
and prophets to succeed you;
9 You who were caught up in a whirlwind of flame,
and in a chariot with horses of fire;
10 You who have been designated in severe writings for times future,
as if to calm the anger before it flares up,
to bring the father's heart back to the child,
and restore the tribes of Israel.
11 Blessed are those who see you,
and who will be adorned with love of God!
Because we, too, will certainly be alive.

12 When Elijah had been enveloped in the whirlwind,
Elisha was filled with his spirit.
During his lifetime, he was not shaken by none prince,
and no one dominated him.
13 Nothing was impossible for him,
and his body, lying in the tomb, performed miracles.
14 During his lifetime he performed wonders,
And in his death, he worked wonders.
15 Despite all this, the people did not repent,
and did not turn away from sin,
until he was taken far from his country,
and scattered throughout the earth.

Only a small people remained,
with a leader from the house of David.
16 Among these, some did what was pleasing farewell,
and others multiplied their transgressions.

17 Hezekiah fortified his city,
and brought the Gihon into its enclosure;
With the iron, he carved into the rock.,
and built reservoirs for the water.

18 In his days Sennacherib went up,
and sent Rabsacès; he departed,
and raised his hand against Zion,
and boasted in his boasting.
19 Then their Their hearts and hands trembled,
and they were in pain as women who give birth.
20 They called upon the Merciful Lord,
extending their hands towards him,
And the Saint heard them immediately from heaven.,
and delivered them through the ministry of Isaiah.
21 He struck down the army of the Assyrians,
and his angel destroyed them.

22 For Hezekiah did what was pleasing to the Lord,
and stood firm in the ways of David, his father,
which Isaiah the prophet recommended to him,
great and truthful in his visions.
23 During those days, the sun moved backward,
And Isaiah prolonged the king's life.
24 Under a powerful inspiration, he saw the times to come,
and comforted the afflicted in Zion.
He foretold what must happen until the end of time,
and the things hidden before their fulfillment.

Chapter 49

1. The memory of Josiah is a perfume composed of sweet scents,
prepared by the art of the perfumer;
in every mouth, his memory is sweet like honey,
and like music at a feast.
2 He succeeded in bringing the nation to repentance,
and he removed the abominations of ungodliness.
3 He faithfully turned his heart to the Lord,
and, in the days of the wicked, he strengthens piety.

4 Except for David, Hezekiah, and Josiah,
all the others committed iniquity;
because, having abandoned the law of the Most High,
The kings of Judah met their downfall.
5 Indeed, they have relinquished their power to others,
and their glory to a foreign nation.
6 They burned the chosen city of the sanctuary,
and have left its places deserted,
7 because of Jeremiah, for they mistreated him,
He, consecrated a prophet from his mother's womb,
to overthrow, destroy, and cause to perish,
at the same time as for building and planting.
8 Ezekiel beheld the vision of glory,
that the Lord he showed him on the chariot of the Cherubim;
9 for he thought of the enemies in the threat of’a thunderstorm,
and he did good to those who followed the straight path.
10 As for the twelve prophets, let their bones
bloom again breast from their tombs!
For they comforted Jacob,
and saved him through a sure hope.

11 How to celebrate Zorobabel?
Because it's like a ring seal in the right hand.
12 It is Likewise, Jesus, son of Josedec!
Both of them, in their day, rebuilt the house of God,
and rebuilt the temple, consecrated to the Lord,
destined for eternal glory.
13 Nehemiah's memory is also great,
He who rebuilt our ruined walls,
who restored our doors with their bars,
and rebuilt our homes.

14 No man has ever existed on earth like Enoch,
for he too was taken from this earth.
15 Nor was there any man like Joseph,
the prince of his brothers, the support of his nation;
and his bones were carefully preserved.
16 Shem and Seth were glorified among men,
But above all beings in creation is Adam.

Chapter 50

1 Simon, son of Onias, is the high priest
who, during his lifetime, repaired the house of the Lord,
and, during his days, strengthened the temple.
2 Through him the foundations were laid to double the
the high wall that supports the temple enclosure.
3 In his time the water reservoir was made;
bronze of which it was formed had the perimeter of the sea.
4 He took care of his people to preserve it of the ruin,
and fortified the city against a siege.

5 How majestic he was in the midst of the people gathered all around him,
when he came out of the house of the veil!
He was like the morning star that sparkles through the cloud,
like the moon on its full days,
7 like the sun that shines forth upon the temple of the Most High,
and like the rainbow that shines in the midst of the luminous clouds;
8, like the bloom of roses in the days of spring,
like lilies by the water's edge,
like the fragrant branch of the tree on summer days,
9 like perfume on the censer fire,
like a solid gold vase,
adorned with all kinds of precious stones,
10 like the olive tree that bears its fruit,
and like the cypress tree that rises into the clouds.

11 When he had taken the robe of honor,
and adorned with all its ornaments,
and that he would go up to the holy altar,
It made the area around the sanctuary shine brightly.
12 But when he received the parts victims from the hands of the priests,
and stood near the hearth of the altar,
his brothers forming a crown around him,
then it seemed like a majestic cedar on the Lebanon,
and the priests surrounded him like palm tree trunks.
13 All the sons of Aaron were wearing of their magnificent ornaments,
And they held in their hands the offering for the Lord,
before the entire assembly of Israel.

14 And when he had finished the service at the altars,
in order to beautify the offering of the Almighty Most High,
He extended his hand over the libation cup,
and spread the blood of the grape.
15 He THE poured onto the base of the altar,
a fragrance of pleasant scent to the Most High, to the great King.
16 Then Aaron's sons cried out,
they sounded their trumpets of beaten metal,
and let out resounding shouts,
in remembrance before the Most High.
17 And all the people at once hurried,
and fell face down on the ground.,
to worship their Lord,
Almighty God, the Most High.
18 And the singers, in deploying their voices praised him;
The vast temple resounded with sweet harmonies.
19 And the people pleaded with the Lord most loudly,
standing praying before the Merciful One,
until the Lord's ceremony was completed,
and that the priests had performed the sacred functions.

20 Then the high priest lowered and raised his hand
upon the whole assembly of the children of Israel,
to impart with his lips the blessing of the Lord,
and to glorify themselves in his name.
21 And the people prostrated himself again
to receive the blessing from the Most High.

22 And now, bless the Lord of the universe,
who is doing great things everywhere,
which has exalted our days since the beginning,
and has treated us according to his mercy.
23 May he give us joy from the heart,
and that peace either nowadays
in Israel, just like in the days of the past!
24 May his mercy remain with us forever,
and may he deliver us when his day comes!

25 There are two nations that my soul hates,
and the third one is not even a nation:
26 Those who dwell in Mount Seir, the Philistines,
and the foolish people who live in Shechem.

27 I have recorded in this book
an education in intelligence and science,
I, Jesus, son of Sirach, from Jerusalem,
who made the wisdom of my heart flow freely.
28 Blessed is he who devotes himself to these teachings!
He who gathers them in his heart will become wise;
29 For if he puts them into practice, he will overcome everything,
because the light of the Lord is his path.

< TWO APPENDICES >

Chapter 51

— Prayer of Jesus, son of Sirach. —

1 I want to celebrate you, Lord, King;
I want to praise you, O God and Savior,
I celebrate your name.

2 For you have been my protector and helper;
You saved my body from ruin,
from the net of the slanderous tongue,
from the lips of those who practice lying;
and, facing my opponents,
3 you have been My support and you delivered me,
according to the greatness of your mercy and your name,
of those who gnashed their teeth, ready to me devour;
from the hands of those who wanted my life,
of all the tribulations with which I was besieged;
4. From the suffocation of the fire that surrounded me,
from the middle of a fire that I had not lit;
5 of the deep abyss of Sheol,
of the impure tongue and of lying speech addressed to the king,
from the slander of an unjust tongue.

6 My soul was approaching death,
and my life was bordering on Sheol below.
7 They surrounded me on all sides,
and there was no one to help me;
I looked for help from men, and there were none.
8 Then I remembered your mercy, Lord,
and of your works in ancient times;
I remembered that you might save those who hoped in you,
and that you deliver them from the hands of the nations idolaters.

9 And, prostrate I raised my prayer against the ground.,
and I YOU I conjured up me to save from death.
10 I called upon the Lord, the father of my Lord,
so that he would not abandon me in the days of my distress,
in the time of the proud, when there was no help:
11 «I will praise your name forever,
and I THE I will sing in my gratitude.»
And my prayer was answered.,
12 for you have saved me from ruin,
and you delivered me in the time of misfortune.
That is why I will celebrate you and praise you,
and I will bless the name of the Lord.

— Zeal for the acquisition of wisdom —

13 When I was still young, before I had wandered,
I openly sought wisdom in my prayer.
14 I asked for it in front of the temple,
And I will search for her until the end.
15 Seeing his flower, like at sight of the bunch of grapes that are changing color,
My heart rejoiced in her.
With her, my foot walked in the right path;
From my youth, I followed in his footsteps.
16 I him I listened a little time and I took her in,
and I found great instruction for myself.

17 Thanks to her, I have gained a great profit:
To the one who gave me wisdom I want to give glory!
18 For I have resolved to put it into practice,
I have applied myself to doing good, and I will not be put to shame.
19 For her my soul has struggled,
and I took great care in my actions.
I raised my hands above,
and I regretted having ignored it.
20 To her I directed my soul,
and, in purity of life, I found it.
With her, from the beginning, I acquired intelligence;
That is why I will never be abandoned.
21 My heart stirred in my search for him;
I have also acquired a valuable asset.
22 The Lord has rewarded me with the gift of speech,
and I will use to rent it.

23 Come near to me, you ignorant ones,
and establish your dwelling in the house of instruction,
24 because you lack wisdom,
and that your souls thirst greatly.
25 I open my mouth and speak:
Get yourselvesthere without money;
26. Bend your neck under the yoke,
and that your soul may receive instruction;
You don't have to go far to find it.
27 See for yourselves that I have done little work,
and that I found great peace.
28 Take part in education at a high price of money,
and with it you will have acquired abundant gold.
29 Let your soul rejoice in mercy of Lord,
and do not be ashamed of his praise.
30. Complete your work ahead of time.,
And in due time, he will give you your reward.
