I, the Elder, to Gaius, the beloved whom I love in truth.
Beloved, above all I wish that the state of your affairs and your health may be as prosperous as that of your soul.
I had a lot of joywhen brothers arrived and testified to your truth, I mean the way you walk in the truth.
I have no greater joy than to learn that my children are walking in the truth.
Beloved, you act faithfully in all that you do for the brothers, and especially for brothers foreigners;
They have also borne witness to your love before the Church. You will do well to provide for their journey in a manner worthy of God;
for it was for his name's sake that they went out, receiving nothing from the Gentiles.
We must support such men, in order to work with them for the truth.
I wrote to the Church; but Diotrephes, who likes to be first among them, does not receive us.
Therefore, when I come, I will confront him with the things he is doing and the evil things he is saying against us. Not only that, but he himself refuses to welcome the brothers and sisters, and he hinders those who want to welcome them, and puts them out of the church.
Beloved, do not imitate evil, but imitate good. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has not seen God.
Everyone, and the truth itself, testifies well to Demetrius; we also testify to him, and you know that our testimony is true.
I have many things I would like to write to you, but I don't want to do it with ink and pen:
I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace Be with you!
Our friends send their greetings. Please give our greetings to each of our friends individually.
